PreK. I don't know what to do. Long.
Dd has been in daycare since she was 12 weeks old. I pulled her out in Oct because I was laid off and have decided to become a sahm since we are moving OOS in early 2018. Either Jan of Feb.
Before we pulled dd from daycare we had a meeting with daycare as they expressed concerned that dd was extremely hyperactive and her speech seemed delayed. We had her evaluated through the district in late June and she didn't qualify so we put her in private speech and OT.
We just had her evaluated again through the district and she qualified for OT and since she qualified for OT I pushed till they gave her speech as well. She starts district services next month. She will be 4 in early May.
Anyway, the district suggested we only put her in half day upk because they are worried that she wouldn't do well in full day upk. Part time is M-f for 2.5hrs while FT is 7hrs.
She went in for an evaluation at the nearby Catholic school and was accepted to the prek program through them. It's also free and M-F for 5.5hrs.
Gut feeling is to go with the Catholic school program because I just got a good feeling from them but now I'm 2nd guessing myself and don't want to negatively impact dd. Problem is if she has problems in the Catholic school program I can't switch her to the public school program.
She will get OT for a year and Speech for 6 through an outside service and get re-evaluated. She has each 2x a week.
How do I make a decision? Dh says he'll go with whatever I decide since I'm the one who brings her to all her appts.

What if you started her in the public school program and if she doesn't excel then switch her to the Catholic school?

If you're moving in Jan or Feb, then she'll only be in whichever program you choose for 3 or 4 months. I personally don't see a need for prek to be full day. My dd goes for 2.5 hours a day and I think that's perfect for her age. It makes for a good transition to get her ready for full day Kindergarten next year. But my dd never went to daycare, so 2.5 hours is by far the longest she's ever been out of the house with out me and DH. If your dd is used to full-day day care, then full day pre-k might be ok for her. But it sounds like she will also be kept pretty busy with the services she will be getting, and honestly, that plus a full day at school sounds like an awful lot for such a young child. When will she have time to just play and be a kid?

Unfortunately, can't. They are all lottery. We got our spots in both but now I just have to figure out which to put her in.

I don't want to do ft public because that is 7hrs. The 5.5hrs at the catholic school is learning in the am and play in the pm. Then she would have her services 2x a week after school. The public school is 2.5hrs then I would take her to services again the 2x a week. My biggest gripe is I hate my district and we were never planning on putting her in the district except they have the upk now.
Dh suggested to register her for both so we don't lose our spots then haveva discussion with her OT teacher in July to see what she recommends as the best fit.

If she did ft public it would but that's not an option we are looking into. With the 2.5hrs or the 5.5hrs I'm still bringing her to an hour of OT/Speech 2x a week.

I would put her in the Catholic school pre-k- if she is struggling initially with the whole day you could pick her up early. My dd just turned three and she has been in nursery school 6 hours a day since December. She loves it and is doing well. The school voiced similar concerns and agreed to be flexible with the hours.

That's a great idea. I'll call them and make sure that's not an issue.

7 hours is a long day for actual school--my kids elementary day is only 6 hours! I'd go the catholic school route.

Re: PreK. I don't know what to do. Long.
If it were me I would listen to the district. At the end of the day they only want to see the children succeed. If they are saying 1/2 day pre-k that's what I would do. She's not in any school setting now and to go from zero to 5.5hr days PLUS OT/speech on top of that seems like so much.
Have you checked out pre-k in your new state? What do they offer? Maybe follow the same schedule in NY that they offer in your new state.

I would consider the upk only bc one you add services on top that becomes a very long day. It would also make scheduling easier bc you'd have more flexibility since OT especially can be hard to find.

Re: PreK. I don't know what to do. Long.
Being in the field, my concern is that you mentioned hyperactivity. Catholic schools can ask you to leave if behaviors become too difficult to manage.
Even though she'd be under cpse, in the public school buildings, there would be other professionals whose opinions could be tapped. I think that catholic schools are a little more isolated.
Just some food for thought....

I think I'm leaning more towards the upk. I have to talk to the Catholic school in terms of services and such but from what I've heard from tons of people is that the upk may be a better option. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with this issue for kindergarten.
