Pregnant & Riding A Bicycle
We're leaving for Georgia tomorrow, going to a little southern island of Georgia for a friend's wedding. The island is tiny, and I guess the preferred means of transportation around is riding a bicycle. DH has been to this island lots of times, I haven't, so he just told me this the other day.
I said to him "um, I don't think I'm supposed to ride a bicycle", and he was very . I said it was because of a risk of fall, but also because your balance is really off with a big belly too. He and his friend were totally surprised by this. Men have no common sense!!!!!!! I said to him "have you ever seen a pregnant woman on a bike?" and he said no, guess I made my point!
I'm all for having fun while there, but not looking to get injured! Supposedly they may have those low-riding ones that you can ride on the beach, with 3 wheels. That would be safe I'm sure.
Men are so clueless.

Do you mean that you thought pregnant women can ride bicycles? I never really thought about it until he brought it up, but I'm sure it's not recommended, due to risk of fall since you're off-balance while pregnant.

Re: Pregnant & Riding A Bicycle
funny...I JUST asked my Dr. about this at my last appointment, because I wanted to ride my bike in this nice weather. She said it was fine to do. She said I will know when it's time to stop doing some activities (when belly is too big, or balance is really bad) but otherwise just enjoy this time.

That's funny! I'm always klutzy, so I'd be nervous on a regular bike, but I'm all for trying one of the lower ones. I do want to do it, it sounds fun! Just don't really trust myself or my balance/steering around my belly on a regular bike!

I was riding my bike and was fine. I never really thought about not doing it. I'm not sure why I would fall? I'm not going mtn biking, just on paved roads around our neighborhood.

Re: Pregnant & Riding A Bicycle
I can barely walk straight with this belly... I cannot imagine riding a bike...
Maybe your DH can get a sidecar for you...

I'll suggest it to him in a dead-serious tone, see if he thinks I've completely lost my mind-- he already does most of the time anyway!!
And I agree...I can't seem coordinated enough with 2 feet on the ground, can't imagine on a high bike!

Re: Pregnant & Riding A Bicycle
I think it's safe if it's something you regularly do AND if you feel comfy doing it! I haven't ridden a bike in ages so I don't think I would bother personally right now. I would be afraid of falling...AND think of how painful that seat might be! I'm a bit of a klutz myself...so maybe I'm a little more paranoid!
