pregnancy and mold
Hey Ladies,
I'm freaking out! Last week we found out that we have mold growing in our den. Since then, I have stayed out of that room and we've closed the doors that lead to the rest of the house to try to seal it off. But I'm so worried. That's the room we spend most of our time in, or did.
I guess I don't know much about mold, and of course, we have to get someone in here to look at it - we'll probably just tear the room down and start over (which would make me feel a lot better). Anyway, can't mold spread through the air and then start growing in other places? I"m worried that it might have spread to other parts of the house, and I don't even want to be here! Do you think this is bad if I'm pregnant (only 4 weeks)? I am so worried.

At 4 weeks your baby isn't even sharing your blood supply so I wouldn't worry about that. Does your insurance cover this? Are you doing remediation? I would seal off that room with heavy plastic and close all vents and seal with plastic. Call a mold remediation company-they will clean it and also clean your ventilation system.

Don't panic yet. Call a company that specializes in mold removal (your homeowners insurance company should be able to recommend someone). Not all mold is toxic, but it all looks horrible and is enough to give anyone the willies.

Re: pregnancy and mold
When pregnant with my first child I cleaned my G-ma's basement. It was so bad that when I blew my nose black sout came out....yuck. I also painted, quite a bit before I knew I was pregnant. So early in pregnancy I would not worry. I flipped out when I realized I was pregnant and everyone, inc dr, told me not to worry. They were right...My 3 yr old son is just fine. I would be more concerned down the road, especially after birth.

Re: pregnancy and mold
Thank you! I knew being so early that it probably wasn't a concern... but i will feel totally better when it is taken care of! Thanks, again.
