PreCare Conceive Pills

I've been on these since I went off the pill, and got PG shortly thereafter. I've asked at my practice if they were adequate to still take while pregnant (I guess the word 'conceive' throws me off, since I already conceived!!), and they said yes.

Well I had another Dr. in my practice tonight and told him I need a refill of my Rx, and he asked which I take. I told him Precare and he said I should switch to PrimaCare One, since it has the Omega-3's.

Now of course I'm stressed that I haven't been getting enough nutrients for the baby all along!!! Chat Icon I peeled the label off my PreCare and it says "a once-daily prenatal supplement with vitamins and minerals important before and at the time of conception. Right for each mom & baby". So, I am freaking that they haven't been enough. Doesn't it just sound like one you take before you get PG, then would switch?

Anyone take this? Any advice? I have been irrational about many things this last week or so, and emotional, so I may be overreacting, I know. Chat Icon

Also, how much folic acid should we be getting? This one says it has USP, 1mg, whatever that means...

I haven't taken a prenatal in months b/c of my m/s issues. I try to get my nutrients elsewhere.

I am sure it is fineChat Icon

Thanks for the reassurance. I know I've been irrational lately, and emotional, so I knew it was getting the best of me!!!

Are you feeling any better lately?

Re: PreCare Conceive Pills

I took PreCare Conceive for several months before TTC and then I went to a different doctor while TTC and they didn't have samples of PreCare so they gave me Prima Care One while TTC and I've been taking it ever since. I am now 38 weeks 4 days. They have the same amount of folic acid in them, but Prima Care One has those Omega fatty acids which are supposed to be good for brain developement. Not that the Pre Care isn't good, Prima Care just has something extra. Don't worry, I'm sure the baby is getting plenty of what it needs. Folic acid is the most important thing in the beginning. From what I understand, you should be getting 1 MG (same as 1,000 mcg) of folic acid 3 months prior to TTC throughout pregnancy. All women of childbearing age should get 400 mcg of folic acid.

Thank you!!!! Chat Icon The doc tonight did say that he likes the Primacare ones because of the fatty acids/Omega-3's, so that's why he gave me the new Rx for them. Thank you!! Chat Icon

I really don't think that you should worry. Folic Acid, is most important in the very early stage of PG is and I am sure both had enough. I

the omega-3 is the nutrient found in fish oil. mainly it's the "latest breakthrough development" and aids brain development which is actually later in pregnancy. don't worry about it too much...I seem to recall many wondrous minds coming along through the ages long before prenatal vitamins even existed. and prenatals are really just supposed to supplement what you eat already. Re: PreCare Conceive Pills

I did the exact same thing...I was taking precare (thinking it was a prenatal) and when my Dr. asked if I was taking prenatal I said yes...so for weeks this is what I was doing. Finally, thanks to my FIL being an obgyn, he asked me what I was taking and when I told him Precare he said, no those are preconceive, not prenatal...so I said UH OH! He said no big deal, and just gave me an Rx for the prenatals. He didn't think it was a problem at all so don't worry! But I've been taking a supplemental folic from the beginning. I wouldn't worry though, your baby will be just fine!

Re: PreCare Conceive Pills

The same exact thing happened to me!! At my 20week sonogram I needed a refill and that Dr told me I should be on Primacare as well. He said it wasn't a big deal that I wasn't but now I should switch-they have the same amount of folic acid but primacare has the extra from brain development-Don't worry!Chat Icon

Wow, that's weird!! But yeah, I've calmed down about it, just can't wait to get this Rx filled today now, I don't even care that I haven't finished the other ones yet!!

It's just annoying that the same exact practice prescribed the prenatals to me back before I was PG, wouldn't you think they'd check once I became pregnant as to which ones I was taking? Annoying!!
