Re: Pre-School for 3 year old

Okay, thanks. DS is only 2 at the moment, but I've just looked at a pre-school for next September. You can choose mornings, afternoons or all day, but here in the UK the government sponsors 15 free hours of education from the age of 3. In order to qualify you have to do the minimum of 15 hours. The pre-school sets out different plans for achieving the 15 hours (ie 5 morning sessions, 1 full day and 4 afternoons, etc) and the one that seems to work for us the best is 2 full days from about 9 to 3:30.

I thought it sounded like a lot for a 3 year old to handle. But it sounds like it's not that far off the mark, I guess. I imagined he'd do 2 mornings a week or something...Guess we'll see!

Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: Pre-School for 3 year old

We sent DS to 2 half days per week when he turned three. 3 1/2 hours per day. He loved it! We would've definately done more if we could've afforded it.

Re: Pre-School for 3 year old

Ds is 3 and goes 2 days a week for 2.5 hours each day. every morning he asks to go to school and is so upset if I tell him it's not a school day. The first day he didn't even shed a tear just waved goodbye and ran off the play. this is the same kid that used to cry and carry if I dared to leave him with someone else to go run errands.

Re: Pre-School for 3 year old

where we go it's:

2 days/week, 3 hours for 2 1/2 year olds
3 days/week, 3 hours for 3 year olds
5 days/week, 3 hours for pre-K (4 year olds)

the 3 year olds have lunch parties that extend some days to 5 hours (1-2 times a month)

the 4 year olds have an enrichment option that extends a day a week to 5 hours (plus they have lunch parties as well every other week)

Re: Pre-School for 3 year old

My DD goes 2 days a week for 2.5 hrs each day. She likes it and it seems to be enough. Next year I hope to send her 3 days a week.

Re: Pre-School for 3 year old

When DD was in the 3 yo program she went 2 days, 2.5 hrs a day. I would have liked 3, but this was a compromise between DH and I.
