Pre-natal Vitamins

Is it ok to take the Cvs Prenatal vitamins with minerals - for pregnant and lactating women? I have my appt next week and the doc said they recommend CVS but I just also saw cvs one with DHA? whats the difference? Thx

Re: Pre-natal Vitamins

My sister told me that I should take a prenatal multivitamin and a DHA pill. I do the target brands of both. The prenatals the dr gave me have 1 multivitamin and 1 DHA pill per packet. I think DHA is supposed to be important for brain growth. Hope that helps!

The regular ones are fine, but your dr. will probably suggest that you get one with DHA. DHA promotes brain and eye development and is good for the baby's immune and nervous systems. If you already bought and opened the ones without, they do make separate DHA supplements - Enfamil Expecta is one and they sell it at Babies R Us. If you think your dr. might prescribe you prenatals at your appt. next week, I personally think you'd be fine without it for the week. HTH!

Re: Pre-natal Vitamins

Okay, did all of your OB's recommend the DHA supplement??? My OB just gave me a presc for a chewable prenatal and it's awful- just like a vit a, some B vits and like 900mcg of folate. Nothing else. I'm mad that he never even mentioned DHA or even recommended it? I really like him but am prob switching bc of things like this.

I meet with the doctor next friday for my first visit. In the meantime when I made the appt I asked if I can take the CVS brand prenatal vitamins and she said yes they normally recommend that brand but didnt mention anything about DHA? I just read online that I should be taken that but, she did say when I go there they will give me a bunch of samples to try and see what I like so I am assuming at that time I will take something with the DHA:)

Mine didn't specifically say yes or no, she did say that studies show there is a benefit though. I chose the rainbow light ones when I was pregnant with DS because they have a lot more then other prenatals, they don't make me nauseous and don't hurt my stomach.

my dr wanted the dha.....

I tried a mail order one from them first, but I didn't like the aftertaste ( thought my prescription plan was bad).

Then they found me a generic with dha and it only had a $10 copay even though I have a $5K deductible medical plan.

My OB definitely wanted DHA. But was totally fine with One-A-Day OTC. I have a few OBs and this one said she took the One-A-Day when she was preggers.

The sample my ob gave me was the ones with a dha supplement. When I went to fill the prescriptions it was gonna be 80 bucks. I picked up the cvs generic version and the doctor said that was perfectly fine, so that's what I've been taking...
