Re: Prague
Ahoj!/Ahoy! (Hello in Slovak/Czech)
I was there last August.
We stayed at Eurostars David and it was really good for the price. I think we paid 95 Euro per night. Free wi-fi, but we didn't pay extra for breakfast. A bit of a walk to Charles Bridge, though. One problem we had was with the A/C. It wasn't good and it was hot that week.
We walked over the bridge and also saw the castle.
We also did two great walking tours. Our guide was Roman Bily. We did the Jewish Quarter Tour (highly recommended!) and a Communism Tour (if you are really into Communist times like DH and I am, he knows his stuff). If you need his email, let me know.
For Restaurants we loved loved loved Kolkovna. Amazing Goulash and Knedliky! I'd go back to Prague to just eat there. My Husband had the Duck. It's a Czech specialty. So good! Address: V Celnici 4, Praha 1, 110 00 http://www.kolkovna.cz/index.php?language=en&show=homepage
DH and I also really enjoyed this place if you are into Fine Dining:
http://www.vzatisi.cz/en/vzatisi/
The Czech wines are really quite nice. They have a nice red which we enjoyed (Something with a Z.... Zwei, Zwerg, I forget)
We also went to U Golema in the Jewish Quarter. The food was really, really good, but the service was absolutely awful. They really charge you for every little thing. Be careful of what you eat off the table.
There are so many touristy places that it's hard to find a good place to eat.
Also watch out for taxis trying to round up. It happened to us. It was only a little bit, but when I told my Slovak friend, he said they often try to rip tourists off.
The Metro is pretty cheap, so I'd take that.
Are you interested in day trips?
Kutna Hora and Terezin (Theresienstadt) are really interesting.
Kutna Hora has a church decorated in bones and it's nice to see a little Czech country town.
Terezin was used in WW2 as a Ghetto. It was really interesting, again if you like WW2 history.
Let me know if you are interested in any of those places and I can give you more info.
For a nice souvenir, you can buy a nice piece of crystal. But go to a reputable place. You can ask your hotel for suggestions. DH and I got a nice modern vodka set from Artel.
Have fun and enjoy! I love the Czech Republic so much I'd consider moving there. Drink a glass of slivovice for me!

its an opera where the actors are marionettes. i know it sounds super corny, but since it was one of those "top tourist attractions" we went anyway. and it was really good! very glad we went! tip: theater is small!! get their early to get a seat in the first row

Re: Prague
just to add. they have really good beer too!!
one of our fave restaurants was PHENIX and we just found it by chance as we were headed to the charles bridge and were starving. yum!
as for taxis, dont do it! we actually schedule a pickup/drop off from the airport from a car service company i found with good reviews on a travel site. if you are interested, i can go through my emails and get the info. they were on time, nice and not pushy.
if you are james bond fan, the casino that they filmed casino royale is in prague. very small, but cool to go anyway.
we also stayed at a eurostar, but it was the thalia hotel. i thought the location was great and had no issues. we actually cashed in our CC rewards so for 4 nights we only spent $14 out of pocket which made it all the more special !

It's right by the Dancing building and New Town.
I forgot to mention the astronomical clock is pretty cool to see.
