PPD shot
The end of August I am due for my annual PPD shot for work. I am going to the doctor Wednesday and I will ask her if it's safe, but I was wondering if any of you knew if getting the shot is safe for baby.

Re: PPD shot
Some doctors will do it some wont...my doctor would NOT do it... however there is a blood test that they can give you now instead (but only certain labs test for it) Or if your doctor does not feel its safe and is unaware of the blood test then they can write you a letter advising against the PPD test and your job has to accept it AS LONG AS YOU HAVE BEEN COMPLIENT IN THE PAST WITH UPDATED PPD TESTS!

thank you so much. I honestly do not want to get the test done and hoping my doctor agrees. I have been compliant in the past and get it done every year. So I am hoping they will accept the doctors note because they have a strict policy on making sure all employees get tested once a year or they can deny you work.

Re: PPD shot
My doctor said it was fine to do. She actually said where she did her residency (Rochester) they gave it to all pg. women. If your doctor tells you no, then I wouldn't do it. But mine said it was just enzymes and I had it done.

Re: PPD shot
I too have to get annual PPD shots for work
i have heard of mixed reviews one site it was safe b/c getting tested is better than getting the disease. and then I read that you shouldn't b/c you are injecting foreign bacteria into your body
I did find this when googled
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.
Tuberculin skin testing should not be carried out during pregnancy or breastfeeding, unless considered essential by your doctor. Seek medical advice from your doctor.
so I guess as always the best thing to do is ask you Dr what is best for you but in my opinion as long as you are safe at work If I have to go into a TB room I usually double up the respirator and wash thoroughly I would not get the ppd shot

Re: PPD shot
I was due for one at my job and I was out of compliance in past shots. I talked to 3 different doctors about it and they all said it was safe. I decided not to get it done in the first trimester and in the 2nd totally forgot about it! But, I ended up getting it last week when I was 36 weeks. All of the dr.s I talked to said it was safe and there was no reason to put it off.

Re: PPD shot
IMO, there is no reason to get it while pregnant. you are already being monitored by your doc, all it does it test to see if you have TB - it's not a vaccine or anything.
