Powdered formula question
My daughter is thinking of switching her baby from RTF to powdered. How do you prepare it? Do you boil a pitcher of water and leave it out on the counter? Or prefill the bottles and leave them out? What's the best way to mix it in so it doesn't bubble too much? If you used RTF and switched, did you notice a difference in baby's bowel movements? Thanks!

Powdered formula question
I keep a brita on the counter that I use to fill the bottles with. I never heated bottles though - only room temperature. I prepare them one bottle at a time. If I'm going out, I'll fill a bottle with water and take the powder in a container and mix when he's ready to eat. I usually shake it up and then wait a minute to feed him so it's not bubbling still. Never noticed a difference when switching from RTF to powder. Occasionally we switch back to RTF if I get it on sale and I've noticed no differences!

I prepared the powder formula bottles the same way...never used RTF so i cannot compare. Personally i found powder much easier to use bc you dont need to warm it. I fill the bottles each night and leave them on the counter...just add the powder when its time to feed the baby

Powdered formula question
Basically did the same thing. We switched from RTF to powder at like 1 week or so. Maybe 2 weeks. I agree, I find it so much easier than RTF. We keep our brita out on the counter, and I will nuke a measuring cup filled with water for about 2 min then pop the mixed bottle of formula into the water when out for about 1-3 minutes.... just to make it warm. DS has had no problems with that. In the beginning we would just use hot tap water (but that was taking too long for my impatience). When he was still waking at night, we would fill with water before we went to bed and left it out and just mixed when he woke.

Tap water run through a Brita, I kept it at room temp on the counter and just made bottles as needed.

We used filtered water and warmed the bottles when necessary but got the baby used to room temp formula pretty quickly. I had a small dispenser I took with me that was portioned out so it was very easy to prepare anywhere.
Shook it to mix and used Dr. Browns bottles, so never had an issue with bubbles/gas (not sure if that made a difference).

Powdered formula question
We mix the powdered formula using the Dr. Brown's formula mixing pitcher -- it gets out all the clumps and mixes incredibly evenly. After I mix it, I put it in the fridge to let it settle for an hour or so and then I pre-fill bottles the night before. IMO, its easier for me to do this and just slightly warm the bottles the following day as needed vs. making and mixing the bottles as needed. Once the formula is mixed, I believe it is suggested that its consumed within 24 hours (of course it has to be refrigerated within that time). I usually make the bottles at around 10pm before I go to bed, and then they're ready to go!
As for changes from RTF to powder, DD was severely constipated on RTF and still to this day, if I give her more than 8oz of RTF, 2-3 days later she's constipated and gassy. This all went away when we switched to the powder.

I used to boil and cool water, then or fill the bottles with the water and close them with the cap on and leave them on the counter. Then when I needed one I would add the formula.

I tried this brand and the Born Free Bottle Genius and in both, the powder was clumping and clogging the dispenser on a daily basis. I thought it was a humidity problem, but even with the AC on in the house it was happening. I was cleaning and emptying the powder dispenser on a daily basis which took me more time than making the bottles just normally. I returned both as defective! Jealous it works so well for others!

Powdered formula question
The little rtf feeders in the hospital are room, temp too, and the babies are used to it.
I use the bottled water, fill the bottles with powder (10 at a time)and pour the water in when I'm ready to use it
