Potty training spin-off
In your experience, is the actual potty seat better than the seat that you just put on top of your toilet. I do not know why, but the idea of having to clean out the potty seat makes me so I just bought the soft potty that goes on top of the toilet
can any BTDT mommies shed some light
TIA

Re: Potty training spin-off
The convenience that the potty chair offers is that you can put it anywhere. I found for Alex, that having to run from the living room to the bathroom, cut down on her incentive to actually use it. With the pottychair, I kept it in the living room so she could plop down as soon as she felt the need.
Eventually we just got rid of it once she got the hang of using the toilet.

That is exactly what I would say.
If I were to do it over again, I'd probably get a simple stand-alone seat that came with a cooshie seat that goes on the toilet, for when she was ready for that.
Probably something like this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266240

Re: Potty training spin-off
I had both, DS never used the potty chair (maybe once)! He prefered to use the big boy potty with the seat on it...also because he learned to go pee standing; he would never was interested in sitting to do it!

Re: Potty training spin-off
We have the baby bjorn potty and the top part lifts off - its great for car trips as you can just bring the top part with you. I know the poops would make you gag but I line the potty first if I know she is doing a #2 and that way its easier to dispose of it. I have ordered her the baby bjorn seat topper for the toiilet as she wants to go on the toilet now and that way I wont have to deal with it but I think its handy to have the potty for when they are training and their little bladders wont hold it until you can get them to a nearby toilet.

Re: Potty training spin-off
I'm finding that it is not so easy to take off shorts, (sometimes unsnap a onesie), undo a diaper and get them to the bathroom without them going already.
Funny you should post this today, because as of today we will have a potty set up in whatever room we are playing in. I think it will get them more interested too. I know what you mean about cleaning it , but I think and hope it will be worth it in the end.

I was totally against a potty seat too, but I just got one and she actually uses it! The reg potty she would go once in a blue moon. She uses it at home constantly, not one accident! I'm going to give her a week or so on it and try to transition her to the reg toilet.

Re: Potty training spin-off
I let each of my kids pick out a potty seat for the toilet (the soft ring) and that got them interested. I was NOT interested in the little potty seats - I did not want to clean pee and poop out of it! Plus I wanted them to get used to the idea of using the bathroom when they needed to go. I'm training my second one now, and she's still hit or miss with going.

Re: Potty training spin-off
It's really not much different from cleaning a diaper, which I find can get way messier. You just need to empty it out in the toilet right after they go.
We had both the toilet seat and the potty chair. Both were in the bathroom and we let him decide what he wanted to use. At his daycare they have the kiddie toilets that are low to the ground, so he started using a toilet right away and preferred it over the potty chair.
I will say potty training was pretty easy for us bc of the daycare. They are the ones that really got him started. Once we stopped using pull-ups, he got it like a champ.

Re: Potty training spin-off
We haven't started yet, but now that DS is able to sit up by himself I plan on buy a potty chair that also converts to a ring for the big seat. I'm going to have him sit on his whenever we go to the bathroom....no expectations, just get him used to the idea.

Re: Potty training spin-off
We use the potty chair...yes it's not as easy as flushing, but it's better than cleaning a diaper!
I found the big advantage to the chair, was that DS would run into the bathroom and go on his own. He didn't need my help to do anything.
He stands to pee now, but still sits in his chair to poo. Don't let this gross you out, but the poo really just slides out. Then I swish some water to get any remnants, dump, then spray fantastic, swish and dump.

Re: Potty training spin-off
If I had to choose 1 of the 2, it would DEF be the seat cushion for the toilet. Although I pottytrained DD the beginning of last month (she will be 2 in August) and I didn't use anything. She used the stepstool and she sits right on the regular toilet seat.

Re: Potty training spin-off
The nursery where Noah goes to doesn't use potties, so I am going to skip the potty in the house and just use a toilet seat.
If he ever shows any interest in being potty trained and doesn't pee on my couch again.

Re: Potty training spin-off
Since my daughter has/had pooping issues her pooping on the potty chair was not a huge worry for us AT FIRST.
We used the potty chair so she could have it where she felt comfortable. We alternated between that potty chair and her potty ring. For a long period of time she started to ignore the chair and use the ring, unless she was being lazy or having to much fun then she wanted the chair. Then she once we took her diaper away completely she only wanted to poop on the potty chair GROSS. After a couple days of success, the potty fair came and made the potty chair disappear so she had to use the ring from then on.

DD hated using the little potty chair. She never actually went on it. She much prefers the little seat that goes on top of the actual toilet.

We did the same. The transition to the big toilet was non-existant....piece of cake. And thank God...I would GAG cleaning out the potty!!

Re: Potty training spin-off
We use a little potty.
FYI: Our little potty has a lift-off soft ring that is "supposed" to also fit on the potty. It doesn't. It's actually dangerous because it slides all over the place. I got the Summer brand one- white, blue cover.
