Potty training question
Hi there --
I just spent the last 6 days potty training DS (2) and he's doing excellent. I still put a diaper on him at nap time and at bed time. Will he learn to hold it over time for nap and bed time and he'll train himself? Should i switch him to underwear and after a few 'accidents' he'll learn? i just don't want to overwhelm him with too much right now. i'd like for him to master the potty while he's awake first (i think in about 2 weeks it'll be second nature for him).
BTDT moms, any advice? and tips?

Potty training question
I would let him do it at his speed, unless it is taking an incredibly long time (over 6 mos or a year, depending on how old he is), in which case I would go with switching him (and then, see how it goes and if he is wet a lot, switch him back).
My DS1 wore pull ups at night for like 6 months, until he was dry most mornings. DS2 refused any kind of diapers like a week after he was trained.

I followed the 3 day potty training for my DS which says to get rid of all diapers all at once. No nap or bedtime ones. First two naps and overnights DS stayed dry. Only 1 time during those 3 days did DS wake up overnight wet. Something just clicked. He has only had 1 other accident over night in 4 months.

I think he may. one of the best signs of real readiness is waking from naps and overnight dry! jack trained in 1 day but he had been waking from night time and naps dry for like 5 weeks. I was just too lazy to train him prior to that (with a newborn at home). If he isn't waking dry from naps let alone night, not sure how successful you can really be.

Same here (except no newborn - just not enough free time to do it sooner).
I have friends who's DS' still wake up wet in the morning, even though they have been trained for over a year.

I have the same question  DS is 3 years, 4 months old. hes been potty trained during the day for a few months. does really well. BUT I'm still doing diapers for naps and night times.
a lot of days he wakes up dry from his nap. BUT in the mornings his diaper is always very wet. hes a great sleeper, so I'm just not ready to mess with that by having him wake up because he soaked the bed, and having to change sheets in the middle of the night :-/ its my own laziness I realize. but because of how wet he is in mornings I really do kinda think hes not quite ready.... I'm gonna give it another couple months and then push it.
SO.... I say do whatever works for you and your kid! its really hard to get the overnight thing, so I wouldn't push it too much.

Hahaha--- my DS is a TERRRIBLE sleeper but almost never has accidents. All in all, I would take the good sleeper who wakes up wet! lol!

Thanks -- i knew he was ready to start because he showed a lot of interest in it and always asked to be changed right away after going. After the second bad day we had over the weekend i went back to diapers because i thought maybe he was too little and needed a little more time - but he refused to go in the diaper and kept asking for the potty -- and from there we've had hardly any accidents -- so i think he's definitely ready -- i just think maybe he's too young to understand the naptime/overnight thing. I guess time will tell.

I potty trained my son at 2 years exactly and even though his normal thing was to wake up with a soaking wet diaper in the morning, after getting pee trained (modified 3-day method) he started waking up with a totally try diaper by himself after about a week. Now a little over a month later, he is always dry in the morning (or will wake up in the middle of the night to ask to pee and quickly fall back asleep). I was also worried about messing with his good night sleeping and whether I had to proactively train him to stay dry overnight, but you can be pleasantly surprised sometimes! Good luck!
