Potty Training Help

DS is doing SO well on the potty...for pee. He wakes up dry almost every morning and uses the potty for pee all day. He's even started going potty on his own without telling us, so I know he's ready.

Problem is he REFUSES to sit on the potty for poop. Never once. He knows when he's going poop. He hides in the closet or under a table usually. If I catch him, I'd run him to the potty, but he's gotten so good at hiding that he's done before I even realize. During the week he's in day care and goes potty all day long. As such, he's stopped pooping at school. I'm afraid he's holding it in all day since he usually poops around dinner time when we get home. On the weekend, he usually asks for a diaper when he's going to poop.

Anyone experience something similar? I'm out of ideas to help him! He'll be 3 in 2 months, so it's not like he's so late, but I just think he's so close to being ready and I don't know how to get him over this last hump.

Potty Training Help

Yeah Hailey did the same thing for a few months. Every time i would find her going and try to get her to the bowl she would stop going. I think she just got better at recognizing the feeling that she had to go before it was too late.

ETA They are the same age. She will be 3 in Feb

I don't think it's a recognition thing b/c he goes into the closet. I think he's scared for some reason, and I don't know how to help him with that.

Re: Potty Training Help

I had the exact same issue.
DD was pee trained super easy, never had an accident, even at night.

The poop- forget it.

I tried EVERYTHING- sticker charts, rewards, etc, etc.
Nothing worked.

She would go hide in a spot near my couch and just poop in her pants. Every.single. time.

It was maddening.

Honestly, the only thing that helped was time. When SHE was ready, she did it and never looked back.

Granted she had just passed her 4th birthday at the time Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon but it was what it was.

My niece it was the same thing. She would.just ask for a pull up so we would just hand it to her since she could put it ion herself. She was 4 before she got it. It's a thing unfortunately and if you put too much pressure they can get constipated. Just keep bringing him to the potty and praise when he does it.

So he wore underwear all day at day care, no accidents. During dinner last night I saw him starting to poop and rushed him to the potty. First time he ever pooped in the potty!!! He was so excited. Then maybe an hour later he pooped in his underwear. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon At least it was progress!
