postpartum depression
So I am 100% sure that my sister is having major postpartum depression. I tried talking with her but all she does is cry every time and I don't know what else to tell her. Her DD is 5months old now and is a VERY difficult baby since birth. She cries all the time I mean blood screaming cries 24/7. She will not take more then one 30 min nap a day and is still not sleeping threw the night. My sister DH works a lot and she's home alone with a screaming baby all day.. I try to give her breaks here n there but I feel like im losing her more n more each day.
I talked to her briefly yesterday about "seeing" someone to talk to and she just lost it crying saying that she couldn't she just needs the baby to stop crying, but I told her that she isn't going to be able to fix that the baby will stop eventually but she can help herself in feeling better that it doesn't make her any less of a mother or women and its not failing its just getting some help. I told her we don't have to tell anyone either(she's very big on looking perfect to the world) I will watch her DD while she goes to her sessions every week..
We left the convo at that since it wasn't the right place to be discussing it but I want to follow up just me n her and talk to her more push her to get some help.
Do any of you have any advice on what to say to her or even some recommendations on a therapist for her to see?? We are in Suffolk??

I had a baby that cried 24/7 for the first 4 months. I cried a lot. I don't think I had PPD but more of a lack of sleep.
A few good nights of sleep will probably do her wonders.

Dr. Helen Meyers in West Islip is really good. She specializes in post-partum issues and your sister can bring the baby to the appts too if she has to. Best of luck!

no its more then crying. she says that she doesn't want the baby, she doesn't like the baby that she has not bond with her DD and that she wishes she never got prego..
Its the way she looks at you the discus on her face when the baby starts to cry..
yes I could be wrong and it may just be lacks of sleep or maybe im not but its to the point where im starting to worry about not just her but the babys safety too...

I see someone in Port Jefferson. She's a nurse practitioner so she can prescribe meds but is about the therapy part more so than meds. Let me know if pert Jeff is in the area.

i had it all three times - totally curable with meds. She has to be able to see that this is a temporary stage- both in the babys development and in her life. how she is feeling IS fixable and she WILL get better. A therapist and/or meds can do that for her.

I would call her OB as well. At least for the baby's safety.
I know that my insurance covered a nurse to come in and help me while I was going through my difficult time. Luckily I didn't need it bc I was lucky enough to have my mom come over almost every day while my husband was at work. But it would have been free, they also offered a social worker to come do visits with me twice a week to see how I'm feeling and make sure the baby was ok.
If I didn't have my mom, I definitely would have used these services bc some days were almost impossible to get through alone.
I'm so sorry for your sister, I really hope she gets better
