Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
My neighbor gets stuff delivered daily from the postman. After each delivery, the postman scans his mailbox with a hand scanner. Why would he do this. Im purely being nosey at this point

Re: Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
My best guess would be delivery confirmation for priority or express mail packages.

Re: Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
I'm not positive, but I think they are supposed to "check in" with the hand scanner at certain points on their route.

Re: Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
I think I heard mail carriers are on a schedule, so they scan certain mailboxes (that maybe have a bar code) to show if they are on schedule or not to their bosses.
But I could be totally wrong.

Yes, pick up and delivers. He (your postman) scans your mailbox? I guess to PO puts the barcode on the mailbox.

Re: Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
I believe certain houses' mailboxes have bar codes on them placed there by the USPS. The letter carrier has to scan each one so that the "higher ups" can check how efficiently he/she is delivering the mail. I think they're kind of a check-in point...

Re: Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
I think it's a way to track where they are in their route and how fast it takes them to get through it. Kind of like a way to report back to the boss.

This is correct. My postman asked if it was alright if he put a barcode in my mailbox for him to scan in order to check in.

Yup I had to do this when I worked for the postal service. We had to scan different places on our route so the higher ups could see how long the route takes and if we were on time.

Was going to say this is absolutely correct...I have a relative that works for USPS and they said the same thing.

Re: Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
Most definitely a checkpoint! My dad was a mailman and coincidentally had our neighborhood as his route. He put the barcode on OUR mailbox so he could use it to scan before lunch (like required) and then come in, have lunch, scan back out after lunch and still sneak in a few more minutes of relaxation before heading back to the PO.

Re: Postman scanning neighbors mail box?
It's for delivery conformation, i get lots of stuff delivered to my house and he is always scanning them so the tracking numbers show they were delivered.
