Post-Lice scalp issues

Having trouble finding answers to this online. Perhaps some of the many parents with Lice experience have had this happen as well.

8 weeks ago my 2.5 year old came home with Lice from daycare. I had it too. We both did a RID treatment. 7 days latershe got it again. We did another treatment. Since then, I've had excessive scalp itching, to the point of burning. Really uncomfortable. I've been using T-Gel shampoo and an anti-itch solution. I went to the dermatologist and got a prescription for a scalp oil (talconex) and it isn't doing anything. He told me it would just take time. The lymph nodes in the back of my head are swollen and I'm so itchy and I can't take it anymore. My daughter has gotten progressively worse as well, scratching a lot. Yesterday she started complaining about it. I've been checking for 7 weeks--no new lice. This is either a reaction to the bites themselves or the chemical treatment.

If you or your child experieinced this, how long did it last? Did you use anything else that offered relief?

I don't have a specific answer for you but I have a student who got lice about 3 weeks ago and then a week later she also had it again. The poor girl is still itching like crazy. I keep sending her to the nurse and she's fine. I guess it just does take some time. Hope you're all better soon!

Have your tried benadryl? The antihystamine in it might help make the itching better. I haven't had to deal with ,lice so Ican't speak personally but it might be a reaction so the benadryl might work.

The medicine is a pesticide, so it's probably common to have that type of reaction to it. I've heard coconut oil is good for the scalp, and a natural repellent to lice, maybe you can try that?

I use tea tree oil in my shampoo to keep my kids free of lice, but it's also supposed to be good for an itchy scalp.

I appreciate the replies. I did try Benadryl and it didn't do anything. We've been using tea tree oil and a preventative as well, and it's not doing anything for the itch. I feel like there hasn't been anything I haven't put on my scalp yet. I'll give it a little longer and then go back to the dermatologist. Thanks again for the help.
