Post Baptism Party?

We are planning DS's christening and trying to figure out what to do for his party afterwards. We are going to invite everyone back to our house, HOWEVER, we really do not want to make a big production out of the whole thing. I was thinking of just having coffee and cake and maybe some finger foods/hors d'oeuvres.

But I'm starting to get worried that people will feel shorted, if we don't do a lot of food and everything. What are your thoughts?

We made the guest list pretty much the acceptable minimum of people who we have to invite and it's still over 50 people. If we set the expectation, is it ok?

i think so, as long as you said, the expectation is there.

If its midday or around lunch time I see nothing wrong with that. I would not have larger expectations.

Re: Post Baptism Party?

the baptism is at 1:30pm, so I figure by the time it's finished and we get back to the house, it'll be like 3pm and then everyone can have a bite to eat, enjoy spending time together and then take off whenever they want (or when they get hungry for dinner Chat Icon )

Post Baptism Party?

You could word the invite so that it is clear that you are inviting people back to your house for cake and coffee.

I agree. Maybe word it on the invite as "small reception" instead of "party".

I don't see anything wrong with that BUT I will say it is my personal experience that 99% of people expect to be feed - especially at home parties where there's really no 'time limit', ya know? Our church time was the same as yours and the afterparty started at 3 - people were still there at 5 and looking for dinner, epspecially since they have been out of their house since before 1:30. They definetly needed more then finger foods... as did I!

Post Baptism Party?

Yes, definitely include "light refreshments, coffee and cake" on the invite.
