Pooping advice needed
DD is 3.5 now. Ever since DD was able to walk she would go off on her own to poop. We would know she is pooping if she is in the corner and when we come over she yells at us to stay away.
She started preschool in July and we potty trained her the weekend before. She took to it easily (since she was so old) but only for peeing.
She wears underwear at home and in school and only wears diapers overnight and for pooping. When she has to poop she will come over and tell us she wants a diaper, if we try to have her sit on the potty she gets upset.
But the big problem is that she doesn't poop much anymore. She used to go once or twice a day. Now its once every 2-3 days. We assume its because she holds it in while wearing underwear and then gets used to holding it in.
Any advice on how to get her pooping more again?
We've tried prune juice (gave her about 3oz a day) but it hasn't worked.
Thanks

Can you give her a fun book or magazine to look at on the potty for pooping? That has helped with DS.

Pooping advice needed
My wife held the ipad for her for 30 minutes while sitting on the potty.
Of course its a chicken/egg thing now....since she holds it so much - when she does finally have to go (I guess by then its unholdable) she has a tough time because its kind of constipated also.

Re: Pooping advice needed
My daughter did the same thing. She would only poop in her diaper. One day I just told her there were no more diapers. - and it worked! Nothing else worked, rewards...bribes...nothing, but logic worked with a 3 year old. It helped that she didn't need one overnight so I really could just take them away.
As long as she's not struggling to poop, I would just let it go. My DD is back to going at least once everyday now.

Definitely let it go and one day she will just do it. I wouldnt withhold the diaper if she is getting backed up. Is there a certain time of day she would usually go? My DS always went around 9am. I would offer the pull up at this point just to help her go. If she associates pain with poop it will get even more difficult.

I would do fiber gummies daily to ensure she doesn't get constipated.

I agree. The longer they hold it, the harder it is to go- because the water will get reabsorbed, making their poop hard and painful to pass. Then it becomes a vicious cycle- they are now scared to go because they think it will hurt so they withhold even more, and it leads to more painful poops.
What you are describing is so much more common than you think- I have lived it with DD and read it on here so many times from others. It seems poop is so much harder to master than pee for a lot of kids.
I just kept praising and rewarding DD every time she did it in the potty and then one day- at like 4 years old mind you - she did it. With no pomp and circumstance, just did it on the potty and never looked back. She was ready.
Sometimes they just have to be ready on their own terms.
They wont' go to college shitting in their pants, don't worry! Eventually they will get it!

With respect to making it easier for her to go poop, we give my 3 year old DD a packet of Culturelle probiotic everyday to help her poop. She has always had issues with constipation even when she was in a diaper and I find this works. We also give her yogurt, raisins, melon and any other foods that are known to get things moving.

That won't work...DS is still in diapers and I'm sure she will ask for his diapers, lol.

Exactly...thats what I tell my wife. But my concern is now (we are not withholding the diaper for poop) - heck I encourage her to take the diaper. But I think she is now so used to holding it in that she doesnt go. It used to be at least once a day...now its once every 3 days.
>>We also give her yogurt, raisins, melon and any other foods that are known to get things moving.
What else gets things moving? She has raisins in her oatmeal...she had some apple slices yesterday and a banana today. She's not eating as much veggies as she used to though...but she does drink prune juice.
But she still has not pooped since Saturday morning =/

Re: Pooping advice needed
If it gets really bad you can give Miralax. Ask your ped first. We'd give half a capful in juice and she'd go within a day or 2.. It softens it up
