pool gates/alarms

we are building a new house which has an inground pool already. i want to have some type of safety for the pool for ds. we will have a fence but around the backyard, not around the pool. i didnt want to put a second fence around pool, so what else can i do to make it safe besides watching him all the time which of course i will but you never know..

We have an inground pool and have a "Pool Guard" on the doors that lead outside. It's an alarm that goes off whenever the door is opened. We disconnect it, but plan on keeping it on when the baby comes! Hope that helps.

I honestly would put the fence around the pool also. Just god forbid it would give me peace of mind that it would be another obstacle. If you don't want to do that they sell alarms that float in the pool that will go off if anyone/thing falls into the pool child, adult, pet, etc.. Some of them come with a bracelet you put on the child. I also agree with the above poster about something like the pool guard that lets you know if the doors have been opened. You can use your home alarm for this same purpose. Keep the alarm set when you are in the house during the day on the instant setting, if DC open the door it instantly alarms.
