Ponds?
Anyone have one and if so can you post a pic of it...
We are going to re-do outs being the previous home owners never did anything with it and it looks like cr@p so I wanted to make it look nice without spending a fortune - So Ideas would be GREAT..
THANKS

Re: Ponds?
Dh had some nervous energy when I was pregnant and built this Before
 During
 Plants and Dh
 6 months later
1 year later Our Lousianna Iris are back, lily pads just popped up and the lily flower comes out during the daylight, our 50Cent feeder fish survived the winter and hurricane Dennis and Katrina and we have some underwater plants and water lettuce in there. We built a perfect ecosystem so we do nothing to keep it that clear.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Re: Ponds?
They stay in there in the winter they hibernate- you just have make sure the pump bubbles the water and the pond doesn't completely freeze over.

Re: Ponds?
I will try to post pics of DH's pond that he built. It is still a work in progress, we need to add flowers. We have 2 cascading waterfalls.

Not a lot of work because it's DH's job
It's less work than a pool but along the same lines of care in a lot of ways.

Re: Ponds?
great pics! about 15 years ago we built two at my moms house. It was a big project but not hard to do. April 29th I'm taking a cornell coop extension gardening course and one of the classes is outdoor water gardens. We are going to build one this year.

my father puts a big log in before it freezes, and the air actually goes to the bottom (where the fish hibernate) through the wood

Re: Ponds?

Absolutely not! You cannot feed them once the temperature goes below I think 40 degrees-- I will ask my DH what the degree is but you absolutely cannot.
