Polygamy
Im just interested in what people have to say about it. Besides saying it makes me sick...Do you really care though?
I say this because of the show Big Love obviously. I know my SIL is so upset this show is on TV and I laugh and say who the heck cares.
If people choose to live their lives this way, and its VOLUNTARY...then who am I to care?
Of course Im not for it personally, think its disgraceful to the institue of marriage, but I truly dont care who else does it.
And I wanted to clarify I mean consentual...not like the cults who make their 14 yr olds marry an older leader who has 10 wives to begin with, to me thats a whole different ballgame. Unless someone feels polygamy in general promotes that behavior?

I feel the same. I know there are obvious downsides when we deal with minors, but from consenting adults, I don't see a problem.

So weird that you would metion this because I am right now watching a show on A&E about polygamy.  IMO, as long as it is consentual then I guess I take the "Live and let live" theory.

I could never IN A MILLION years partake in it.
However, for those that do, go right ahead.
I find Big Love very intriguing.
I am actually surprised when I hear about people up in arms about the show. I don't get that at all.

I have not seen Big Love, but I am oddly fascinated by this topic. My main problem with it is when I see people on public assistance because they can't support their 5 wives and 20 children on their one salary.

One of my freshman classes that I teach at a local college just researched polygamy for the last two weeks. There are as many people out there who are against it as there are people for it. There are also so many women who are happy with the situation and like to "share" their men. Suprisingly, some of the students (even some of the girls) began to understand and see the benefits of it by the time we were done with the unit. I think that it's important to realize two things 1) the reasons why people partake in polygamy and 2) the benefits and detriments to the participants.
As for me... I say NO WAY would I be a part of it! I'm not into sloppy seconds... or sharing the love of my life.

I care if the unlegally married parties want to have it both ways and apply for social services, Medicaid, food stamps, etc. Supposedly that is very common.

Between consenting adults, I'm fine with it. If someone else wants to be second wife, third wife, that's their own business.
DH would tell you there are times he has at least 10 different wives.

True- there are kids in my school who are from a family of *25*. Same dad, many mothers.

I find that people are a little too involved and bothered about what is going on in others peoples lives.
I jsut don't get it.
I have enough crap to deal with in my own life that I just don't have the time, energy or patience to judge someone else's.
I always like to say "Don't judge until you have walked a mile in thier shoes."
Is it for me? Nope. But nonetheless, it has NO effect on me WHATSOEVER!

I was going to post this, I was thinkign about it in rush hour traffic today. lol.
Most of the people we associate with polygamy are in those cults where they wear prarie clothing, are cut off from society and force 14 year old girls to get married, but I don't care what 2 or 3 or 6 consenting adults do in the bedroom. I've known 3somes that had better relationships than couples.
