Poll: Bumpers or Mesh Liners

You all were soo helpful with my nanny perfume dilemna, here is my next one..

Gearing up to put DD in her crib. She naps in there here and there, but she's still in our room at night.

When she naps or playing around in there, her feet sometimes come through the top of the liner, no matter how high I put them.

I also have a crib that doesn't have solid slats all the way around, there is one solid area.

So now I'm paranoid she's going to get her foot stuck or hit her head when she's rolling around.

Thoughts/Advice are much appreciated!!!

DS bangs his head all night long. They can't hurt themselves when they bang....it sounds way louder than it really is.

As for getting limbs stuck....My DS puts his hand and feet through and only once was he stuck and he cried and I went in to get him.....

Honestly there are always the fears of hurting themselves but really never do.

i have a mesh breathable bumper... it's thin and doesn't protect against the head banging... i hate when i find DD's head smushed up against the bars, but there's nothing we can do!!... the breathable bumper prevents feet and hands from coming through.

I would only use mesh.
Banging a head or getting a limb stuck in the slats is not as dangerous as the proven risk of SIDS with regular bumpers.
I just wouldn't sleep at night thinking about the what ifs

I used mesh for DS 1 and felt that they didn't do much (or weren't needed) so I didn't use them for DS 2. Occasionally I will hear him bang into the back of the crib but, it doesn't seem to bother him (he doesn't wake up). Occasionally I will see a hand or foot coming out the slats but, it also doesn't seem to bother him (doesn't wake up).

Same.

We don't have anything in there.

eta: DD is 14 months now, been in the crib since 3 months.

I don't have anything in DS's crib. He bangs his head when he rolls. I was wondering the same thing if I should put a bumper in? He's 7 1/2 months.

Thanks. I have the breathable mesh liner and her feet still get thru. I agree the benefits of the mesh liners outweigh the risks with the bumpers. Just can't bear the thought of her foot or hand getting stuck or hitting her head.

I used the mesh bumpers and just switched to regular bumpers at 15 months although I'm leaning toward switching back. I just wanted to say that DD still pushes her legs through even with the regular bumpers. I would stick to breathable or none.

Re: Poll: Bumpers or Mesh Liners

before DD was sleeping in her crib full time, I had regular bumpers. then when she started sleeping in it at night, i went out and bought mesh. unfortunately i have a crib that doesn't have slats on the ends so i couldnt find a set of mesh bumpers that fit properly. so i just took everything off and she just sleeps with nothing. sometimes she bangs around but shes always fine. a couple of times ive had to get a stuck limb unstuck, but shes always been okay.Chat Icon
