Poll - Presents for Teachers

I am not sure what to get DS's teachers for the end of the year. He goes to nursery school for 4 hours, 3 days a week.

I was walking around in Homegoods yesterday and here are my ideas:

1. Decorative storage box with pretty stationary and a picture frame/candle
2. Gourmet treats like cookies, candies, cupcake mixes in a gift bag
3. A cute scarf for the summer and/or jewelry.
4. Soaps and shower gels

I gave them all bracelets that i personally made for the Holidays back in December.

Two of his teachers are older women, one is a young girl about 20 years old.

What do you think? And how much should i spend?

I'd probably stay away from all of that stuff because teachers get a ton of it.

Certain people may not eat the food either.

What about a giftcard to somewhere like Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts? I don't know anyone who wouldn't be thrilled with something like this.

Teachers get a lot of those things and probably don't use them - if they don't like the food or scent, not their style, etc.

I guess the amount is up to you I would say $5-10 is perfect - I think GC to Starbucks, D&D or even Staples are great gifts

Crashing. I'm a teacher and I would prefer something like this. Don't get me wrong, it's the thought and the energy. But the pp is right. We do get a lot of tschotchke kind of things. Chat Icon

I agree a gift card would be your best bet but I realize you didn't ask that question.

Re: Poll - Presents for Teachers

I am a high school teacher who never gets gifts so when i get things like those mentioned in the poll, i LOVE them! Didn't even think that they would get a lot of gifts and they would be like those i mentioned.....

I didn't want to do giftcards b/c i wanted it to be a little bit more from the heart! Plus, giftcards are no fun to buy....selfishly looking for something to do while on maternity leave :)

Thanks for your input so far everyone!

Re: Poll - Presents for Teachers

As a teacher, I do like the stationery idea just bc we go through some much of it...
I also think personalized notepads are great. Not a fan of candles, pic frames, and other "teachey" stuff, just bc we get so much of it! However, it is the thought that counts, and whatever you give will be greatly appreicated.

ITA - of the things mentioned, I would prefer getting the stationary! But IMO gift cards are always most practical! =)

Ditto. I hate to think of how much money gets wasted each year on gifts that aren't used. I am an extremely particular person, so unless someone REALLY knows my taste, most things get donated to a nursing home.

For my "real" gift at Christmas, I gave each teacher a Target gift card. But just for a personal touch, I also made some fudge and peanut butter candy and filled a cardboard treat box for each teacher. Well, when I received thank you cards from them, of course they mentioned the gift card, but both raved about how they loved the homemade candy and how their whole family enjoyed it!

This. I hate to sound ungrateful but I could have written the above myself. Gift cards are the most practical.

Stationery is ALWAYS great for a teacher, especially ones that have their name preprinted on it!!!! As a teacher, I use it all the time!

Re: Poll - Presents for Teachers

I usually do GCs. Last Holiday we gave her a Vera Bradley lunch bag.

This Summer we are giving them a straw beach bag with a "flip flop" beach towel.

Re: Poll - Presents for Teachers

I got a nice gift one year- a very large mug with some biscotti and a DD gift card.

It was thoughtful and useful!
