Pneumonia?

DH is a manager in a department and one of his guys just called to tell him he has pneumonia - now this guy was in all week, feeling lousy. Is pneumonia very contagious? Should DH email the Department and notify everyone in case they start to feel sick?

At the same time, he doesn't want to release this guy's personal information (although he'll probably tell everyone when he gets back)

no, pneumonia is not contagious.

Contagiousness
The viruses and bacteria that cause pneumonia are contagious and are usually found in fluid from the mouth or nose of an infected person. Illness can spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes on a person, by sharing drinking glasses and eating utensils, and when a person touches the used tissues or handkerchiefs of an infected person.

I have had pneumonia several times (about 3 times) and no one around me has ever had it. But I'm one of those people who is vigilant about not spreading my germs. On the other hand, I vaguely remember hearing about viral and bacterial pneumonia, so it might depend on which one.
