Plugged duct
I believe I plugged one of my ducts. The tissue around my left breast is really tender to the touch and extmely hard. I have been using a heating pad, submerging it in warm water, pumping, and nursing (although DD is getting frustrated trying to nurse from that side as I believe not a lot is coming out). I am. Also massaging the area. I have been doing this rotation for 5 hours straight and still no relief. How long will this take to start working? I was also told to get plenty of rest, but won't sleeping just create a bigger problem since I can't sleep and massage at the same time? Any advice or answers would be great. I emailed my LC but I was only able to get general info from her.

Plugged duct
I nursed from that side first for every feeding until it went away, which was a a day or two. Also try a different nursing position (i.e. football hold), I think that really helped me. good luck!

Plugged duct
Ugh the worst pain!!! I would pump every two hours...constantly massage...apply heat...massage in the shower and run HOT water and massage and massage and squeeze some more. After about a full day or two it was better.

Re: Plugged duct
agree with PP's, try new nursing positions including you on all fours dangling over DC. Sounds strange but gravity does great things!

Re: Plugged duct
It can take a quite a few hours or a little more than that to improve. Best advice I could give is soak in a hot tub for a while and gently massage the lump. After that, pump, leaning over so your nipple is pointing to the floor. The combination of pumping along with gravity should do it. Good luck! Plugged ducts are not fun

Re: Plugged duct
Ok here is my routine: heat pack, then shower, use soap and a wide tooth comb (yes this hurts like h-e-l) and massage or comb over it. Heat pack again and nurse on that size as long as possible like 45 minutes. Keep putting her on and change positions. Nursing is the only thing that got mine out. The pump did not do it. I was in severe pain but as soon as it came out it felt SO much better!

How are you feeling today? I find what helps besides what everyone else suggested plus leaning forward so your boob is dangling when nursing or pumping, constant massage even though it hurts and a tight sports bra and ibuprofen at night. That's what works for me.

If heat isn't working try cold. Sometimes it's not clogged just swollen. The cold will reduce the swelling. Good luck.

Re: Plugged duct
Thanks everyone!!! Today I feel much better. I devoted my whole day yesterday to massaging, hot showers and compresses, pumping, nursing, crying due to frustration, and trying somehow to "relax"
Thanks for your suggestions and advice.
