They are attached to your own eyelashes. Eyelashes naturally shed and get renewed with new lashes. Just like your hair. So the extensions will come off when your eyelashes shed.

my boss goes to a salon in Islip or E Islip. it's SO expensive!!!!! ($300 for the initial application and $100 every 3-4 weeks for a fill-in), but it looks GORGEOUS!

Yes, it's $350 at the Red Door for the initial application.
