Please help...9.5 months old...not drinking-randomly vomitting...LONG!
Here is some background:
DS is 9.5 months old. He is a GREAT eater, bottle drinker, nurser!!!
He has been ebf, however since AF started coming 2 months ago my milk supply dropped.
I was short about 1 bottle/day and had been using frozen milk- until last week when I ran out.
As of last week DS has been getting 1- 8oz bottle of formula (enfamil lipil-powder) each day.
On day 3 of giving a formula bottle he randomly threw up (projectile) and has been vomiting every OTHER day ever since..
The past few days have gone like this:
Sat- Wake up- nurse Breakfast: cereal/fruit
lunch: bottle-formula (which he was kinda hesitant about) maybe took 6oz 20min later eats veg/fruit and projectile pukes
dinner: we do cereal and fruit-something plain (just in case... ) BM bottle nurse before bed
Sunday Wake up- nurse cereal/fruit eggs
lunch- BM bottle (then he fell asleep so never "ate" a real lunch
dinner- meat/veg jar fruit some pasta and carrots
formula bottle
nurse before bed
Monday Bkfast: formula bottle (maybe 6oz) cereal/fruit and french toast (wasnt too interested in)
lunch: BM bottle refused yogurt pasta and carrots
dinner: level 3 jar-chicken n veg fruit jar (pukes up about an hour later)
BM bottle-maybe took 4oz
Tuesday breakfast: formula bottle (maybe 6oz) cereal/fruit and french toast (wasnt too interested in)
lunch: formula bottle- refused yogurt pasta and carrots
dinner: level 3 jar-chicken n veg fruit jar
BM bottle-2oz
Wednesday(today) breakfast: BM bottle drinks 6oz (pukes) cereal/fruit and cinnamon bread with a little margarine (devours it all)
lunch: formula bottle refused veg jar (all) yogurt (all)
dinner: level 3 jar-chicken n veg fruit jar (finishes fruit and pukes when there is 1/4 left of chicken/veg)
went on to eat some plain macaroni and cheerios and then drink a 6oz bottle of BM
In the past 3 days he has MAYBE had 24oz of milk... IN 3 DAYS!!!!!!
Tonight I def. saw a decrease in wetness in his diaper... and Im really concerned...
I went to the dr on Monday...and they blamed teeth... but I really dont agree with that...
Its so randomly brought on... and I cant figure it out... I dont know what to do...or what to change...

Re: Please help...9.5 months old...not drinking-randomly vomitting...LONG!
I could prob skip the formula bottle and just offer BM for tomorrow and possibly the next day but because he seems to "get sick" every OTHER day- he technically would get sick tomorrow anyway (and it wouldn't really prove anything)
Id think it was dairy except for the fact that he eats cheese, yogurt, has had ice cream and never had a problem...
Dairy is a part of my diet and it doesnt seem to effect him???
I dont know where to go from here, or what to even ask the dr to do for me...
I feel terrible that I have to supplement as it is... and this is just making me feel sooo much worse!
Please, please please help!

it looks like each day has only 1 bottle of formula? Perhaps try a different brand of formula.. i remember enfamil being foamy and prefering similac...
i think you could try juice since its one bottle

I really dont want to give juice/sugar...
I didnt give DS#1 anything b ut water until he was 2 yrs old...
The ONLY reason he is getting 1 bottle of formula is because thats what Im short when I pump.(he normally drink 3; 8oz bottles/day)
Im fine changing the formula.... but in the meantime- he threw up twice today and had NO formula at all... (it was offered at lunch time and it was refused)

Maybe try RTF formula. My DD is EFF but when I tried to give her the powder, it was vomitathon! Maybe try something gentler on his stomach too. Maybe Alimentum RTF? It's hypoallergenic and should be easier to digest. HTH!

Do you think it could still be the formula knowing he threw up twice today and had no formula at all?

Also- why would he be refusing to drink anything...???
Is it because he is "scared" of his tummy getting upset?

Maybe. I see that he is usually refusing or hesitant about the Lunch bottle. Maybe cut it out totally b/c with all the food he is eating, the volume is just too much. Maybe it's not the formula or BM but it's that he is cutting down. I wish I knew more to help!! I would still try to switch to a RTF formula though.

Hmmm...
Maybe but dont you think 16oz of BM is not enough for sucha young baby?
ETA- I never had a problem with getting him to eat that bottle until Sat (the 3rd day of me introducing formula)

I do think 16oz isn't enough but maybe if you drop the lunch bottle, he will drink a little more at other times. Maybe at lunch time it is just too much. KWIM?
ETA: When he nurses you can't tell how much he is drinking so he may be closer to what is appropriate for his age.

maybe its possible its not the formula and he has developed some sort of reflux? just sounds similar to what my dd started doing about a month ago and we recently put her on reflux meds and the vomiting has calmed down. Just an idea, I'm no expert.

Seems like he's getting a LOT of food. Maybe cut back on the food a little and he will pick up on the bottles. Our ped said DS should be taking in a minimum of 20 ounces of formula/BM a day. If he drops below that, she said to back off on the food. They get all their protein from the BM/formula anyway...the food is just so they learn to eat and you get an idea on allergies, etc. He might be throwing up cuz it's just too much for his belly.

I dont know...this has been his schedule and it was never a problem until I introduced the bottle of formula....
He's hungry he wants to eat and/or drink... but he either refuses to s u ck or pukes...
