PLEASE HELP... why is my 2 year old having so much trouble going to bed?
DS has been an excellent sleeper since he was 10 months old. Now, for the last month or so he doesn't nap unless he is in the car, and now he doesn't even want to go to bed at night! He will go through the bedtime routine just fine like always, but once I put him in his crib he gets upset. He seems Scared. 
Last night we ended up laying down in our bed with him, and then I let him take my pillow into his crib with him. He agreed to lay down in his crib while I sat in the recliner in his room. I left once he was asleep.
I hope this gets better! We are expecting #2 in a few months adn this can't go on!

I find that Jack sometimes wants me to keep the lights dim for him so that he can see and play with his toys better. Do you have a nightlight? Does he have things to do while he unwinds?

DS did this right before he turned 2, and we were sleeping in his rorom with him here and there for a couple weeks--it was the only way to get him to settle down. I think they become more aware and things like shadows start to scare them, maybe sleep patterns change also.
At any rate, when he got a little more relaxed about sleeping in his room again, we added a nightlight and it worked like a charm.

Thanks for your responses ladies.
For now I am putting him in his crib (which will soon be a bed) and sitting in the rocking chair in his room with him until he falls asleep.

This is exactly what happened to me when DS was arond 21 months. I also was expecting #2 and would cry not knowing how I handle both at night (DH works nights). But right around the time I gave birth he just stopped. I am not sure what was bothering him. I confirmed that he was never sick and the pediatrician told me it was seperation anxiety and to let him cry. I just couldn't do it. So I sat there until he fell asleep.
I would personally not move him out of the crib if I didn't have to. I think a bed would just be harder.
I also found on another post here that many people went through this around time. It seemed common. Try doing a search.
