PLEASE HELP: What is considered a FEVER for a baby? (**UPDATE**)
My DS is almost 9 months old. He has had a cough and cold since Thursday, but feels extremely warm this morning. I took his temperature (temporal) and it read 101.9.
What is a fever for a baby, I know its different for adults.
Also, I called the dr. and they told me they can't do anything or perscribe anything for these symtpoms....just saline and nasal aspirator and cold mist humidifier....does this sound right?
TIA
UPDATE: I just got home from the pediatricians. DS has a double ear infection. Both ears are red and sore and painful . I feel so bad for him and feel like I failed as a mother. The Dr. doesn't know if its viral or bacterial and I honestly don't know the difference. . The Dr. wrote an Rx for amoxicilan (sp?), but I was instructed not to give it to him unless he has a fever above 101 tomorrow; which will make it 72 hours with a fever. If he doesn't have one, don't give him the antibiotics. I can continue to give DS tylonal to relieve some discomfort.

yes, it is correct...I am not sure of the science behind it but I know that children can run a high fever and it not be as serious as if an adult had a high fever
I know my doctor said, for anything 105 or over, go to the er

If DS has a fever (anything over 100.4) we take him to the ped. It could be a cold but I would hate for it to turn out to be an infection. DS is 15.5 months.

Under 6 months 1010.4 i was told. Over that, like my sister said-up to 105 is safe as long as it is coming down with tylenol/motrin.

100.4-- but i would bring him in to make sure there is no ear infection or anything.

according to my doctor, it is only an issue over 100.4 for the first 3 months, after that, even with a higher fever, they will tell you to use tylenol or alternate between tylenol/ motrin

That would be my fear too. With my DS he almost always had an ear infection when he got a fever.

aww poor baby.
AJ gets those double whammies all the time. Its heart breaking you can do nothing. I do give her the tylenol / motrin mix to soothe the pain.
Unfortunately for AJ its still antibiotics.
to you both
