Please help Water Leaks & Co-op's - LONG

We bought a co-op on the 4th floor of a 4 story building. The building we bought in is really old. We were out all day yesterday in that monsoon...we got home around 11:30 and I getting ready to go to bed and saw that my bed was soaked in water. I looked up at the ceiling and it was obvious that the water came from there - the paint was all bubbley and peeling with brown water marks.

We didn't notice the ceiling when we bought the unit because the previous owners had built a closet in that section of the room - we knocked it out when we moved in. DH fixed that section of the ceiling.

Here is my problem...I called the management company three times this morning - finally after calling for the 4th time I was able to speak to the manager Chat Icon Not only was he arrogant and cocky but he could give a rats bottom that the roof is leaking water into my bedroom. He was so "whatever" with everything I was saying - Chat Icon

I'm so ticked off at this guy...who do I call to complain about him...this S.O.B. is also on the board...

I also want to know who is responsible for the damage to my bed...my brand new mattress is soaked through - as well as my comforter set and sheets...I am not having a good day

Have you called your homeowner's insurance company? You may also want to ask your neighbors if they've had this happen to them and what they did.

Yeah...did it happen to anybody else? Maybe that would give you more leverage. Sorry the manager is being such an a$$. Hope you get it all straightened out. Chat Icon

You should be able to complain to the board of directors or the management office. In our co-op there is a management office and a maintenance office.

write a letter immediately to the manager and cc the board. I had a coop and a leak and it took forever to get it repaired

document everything and keep copies

our best friends had the same thing happen to them with the roof. They called the super and the managment company. They are responcible for the structure of the building so this is defiently there responcability.
In there case the roof was fixed and now everything is fine. good luck
