Please help re: mulch
I'm clueless about this stuff so pls bear with me! My landscaper just quoted me for black mulch (delivered and installed) $75 per yard and says we need 15 yards at least. I'm thinking this must be a typo or am I getting ripped off or is that how much this stuff costs? Also, is black mulch safe? I am reading that it is dyed and the dye can seep into the ground? Are there any other issues regarding mulch that i should be aware of? Pls help educate me on mulch! Thanks so much!!!!!!

Re: Please help re: mulch
We just paid about $80 per yard. Not sure how big the space is that you are planning to mulch, but the cost sounds about right. I have not heard that black mulch isnt safe...I just did a quick google search and I didnt find anything about that.

Re: Please help re: mulch
it's hard to say how much mulch you need without knowing anything about your yard. can you measure the areas yourself?
Mulch is typically laid out at a depth of 4 inches. To calculate how much is needed for your landscape project, follow these steps:
1. Measure the length and width of your bed
2. Multiply length by width by .33
3. Divide the number by 27
This equals the total number of cubic yards needed.
i have not heard about the black dye going into the ground, but you can order plain mulch if you are worried. once you know how many yards, make a few calls to local places and get prices for mulch with delivery. then you can check if this landscaper is quoting you fairly. be sure to keep in mind that he is including installation of the mulch into the price.

Re: Please help re: mulch
We had 6 yards delivered for $150 (black mulch). The brown was $99/6 yards. We live on .30 of an acre and 6 yards was WAY too much! We had to have family and friends come to take some. A neighbor had her landscaper deliver it and place it in her yard for $150.

I was wondering if the price per yard for the black mulch was on par with what others were charging...THX!

Wow - $150 for 6 yards is MUCH cheaper!

Re: Please help re: mulch
My landscaper charged $60 per yard to put black mulch down--needed 9. But they also cut the beds and really cleaned it up to make it look neat.

That must not be installed though. That is probably just dumping the mulch and the homeowner is spreading it.

Re: Please help re: mulch
We paid 3$ a bag at home depot. Each bag was 3 cubic feet. 27 cubic feet is 1 yard. We got about 25 bags. So that is about 2.7 yards. We paid about 75$
So I would say that the price you got is a lot!
I get that delivery is included but, you might be better off renting a home depot truck and getting it there by the bag. It was 5/10$ last week.
