Please help-poor SA results

Hi all

We finally received the SA results and they cam back abnormal with a low count (10 mil) and poor morpholgy (4% normal) The dr wants to retest him on Wedneseday.. but does anyone have experience with this? It's all new information for me and Im sure we'll hear more from the Dr but just getting nervous. Is conceiving naturally possible/likely? Should we explore other options?

I did get pg last march but it ended up as a chemical. Could this be part of the reason?

Good news is that all my testing came back normal..

Any advice is appreciated!!!

I had the exact same thing. I don't know what the exact numbers were but I know they were poor.

2 weeks after getting those results we got a bfp. I'm just trying to give you hope. we tried for 1 full year of clocking my cycles and timing everything. we had 2 years prior to that of no protection. the RE says that's 3 years of trying and we never got pregnant. something was wrong.

I'm only 4 weeks but I know it is possible, I'm living proof! they did recommend IUI or IVF for me, but we didn't have to go that far.

is motility normal?

for IUI, they prefer count over 5 mil and morphology reaaaaaaaaaally varies, so i feel if motility is normal, you def have a chance with IUIChat Icon

Did he take the SA at the site or did he bring it from home ? I know it is much easier said then done, but it is best to wait until a second SA is done before driving yourself crazy. Sometimes the results can vary, and a bad test isnt all that uncommon. I would have him do a repeat at the end of the month, on site at a lab and see what the results are then....Lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to you!!!

Yes, motility was good at 71%! I think >50% is normal
We're definitely waiting to hear back on the second test..

Thanks girls!! It's good to know I have options and that natural conception is still possible!

My husband first went to Enzo labs and his was about 10 million total so he went to a urologist that specialized in fertility. The urologist did a repeat, which was 18 million total motile sperm. He put my husband on clomid. He has been on clomid for about 5 or 6 months now. His last SA was 35 total million sperm, which is close to normal (40 million is normal). Still no pregnancy though :( Hopefully it will be soon.

Yes!!! They are not really sure exactly how it works for men, but for some it does. Apparently it worked for him. I think body builders use it too. There are not a lot of studies on men using it though and I don't think it is FDA approved for men. In the beginning of all of this, they checked his testoterone and it was slightly low so this qualified him more to be a candidate for clomid. Here is a link

Re: Please help-poor SA results

my dh had very poor morphology, 0% normal and borderline count, around 20 million. We were told by a couple dr.'s (one RE and one urologist) that we have very little chance of getting preg. on our own and we should just go straight to IVF.

We were not happy with these answers so DH went to a second urologist, who did furthur testing and found the reason for his numbers was bilateral varoiceles. Basically, vericose veins on the testicles. The dr. reccommended surgery to correct.

Before the surgery we got preg. on our own in Dec. but it was chemical. The urologist assured us DH's numbers had nothing to do with it. So, DH went on to have the surgery in Jan. Dr. told us it would take at least 3 months to take effect, so April. Well, we did it again and got preg. in February and now I'm over 8 weeks. Dont give up!!! Chat Icon
