Please help me get started: Refi
This may be dumb but I have no idea where to start. My rate is 6.50% now we bought 3 years ago. I also have a PMI that I would LOVE to get rid of. I had great credit before now its ok not sure if I should pay off some bills to improve my credit before trying to Refi.
Do you just start contacting a bunch of banks? The bank I have now with my mortgage didn't offer me a better rate.
Anything else I should know or would be helpful?

I would do some research online to check out rates. We went with TFCU because they had good ones. You can always call your bank and tell them you plan to change if they don't offer you something better which may work and save on costs. The application at TFCU cost about $400 so you really want to pick one bank. Also, you the new mortgage amount needs to be at least 80% the current appraised value to get rid of your PMI. Hope this helps a little. Been through it once but I'm no expert!
