Please help, Local Resorts with Casinos

So my husband is turning 40 in January, his birthday is actually New years Day.

He absolutely would not want a party, I know that for sure.

He likes to play poker so I want to go somewhere where he could do a tournament one day.

I was thinking Vegas initially or New Orleans...but hes already been to Vegas a few times, but also, we have 2 small kids and I KNOW it would give him anxiety being that far away from them - thats just how he is...and I dont want to be like "surprise, we're going to Vegas" and then he has anxiety the whole time...even though both our parents are more than capable of taking care of them for a few days...he just gets anxiety in general and I know it wouldnt be easy for him.

Anyway, I was thinking of driving somewhere. Obvious choices would be Foxwoods or Mohegan...but its kinda of like been there done that a million times...

My sister and brother in law are going to come with us - Id really like to go somewhere that has entertainment and a lot of things to do...plus somewhere he can play poker, if not at least gamble a little bit.

My Mom suggested Mount Airy Lodge? Ive never been. anyone have any suggestions?? I am so conflicted!!

Also, this would be between Christmas and New Years so it will be cold...

Help! lol Thanks in advance :)

My coworker just came back from Niagara Falls and I know they have a casino there. I personally never been but she said it was really nice.

Other than that, safe bet would honestly be Mohegan or Foxwoods.

Since it will be winter Mount airy might be good. A few years back we went to Shawnee mountain and did snow tubing and one night did casino which I guess was mount airy casino. We don't ski, but you could do that too.

I know you said Mohegan was been there done that but I just went with my DH and would love to go again. There is so much to do, see and eat there! Also, if you stay off site many hotels offer shuttles.

thanks all!

Im thinking maybe we could do a couple of things...maybe a couple days in the poconos to ski and then maybe a couple days at mohegan...

I would love to do woodloch spa one day, but it is sooo expensive and you are required to stay 2 nights. Maybe we can just go for the day and not stay over..

Yeah I love Mohegan and I don't even gamble
You can't be the restaurants there, it's just such a nice atmosphere and the hotel rooms are beautiful

There's a smaller Mohegan Sun in the Poconos, we found it through Groupon. We stay at a Holiday Inn that's 5 minutes away with a suite and breakfast included each day, drink vouches at the hotel, and some vouchers I think for $10 slot play at the casino. There's a shuttle to take you there and back every hour. It's literally a smaller version of the one in CT and less crowded at night since it's mostly locals.

The hotel is brand new and clean and the breakfast buffet is pretty good. Whenever we go we find a hiking trail to do during the day.
