Please give some nap advice!!!

My DD was a great napper - she napped for 2 hrs am, then 2 hrs pm and in her swing for little naps inbetween. DS (5 1/2 months) has been up since 7:30 am...and every time I lay him down in his crib he SCREAMS.

I know he needs his naps to sleep good at night - I am at my wits end! Please offer any advice/suggestions. Some days I'll get a 2 hour nap (rare) and others 15 minute naps...I am at such a loss! He's been up there screaming for about 20 minutes now and going strong!Chat Icon

Used to be his swing - which I am ready to put away because he screams when I put him in there now. On a very rare occasion he'll nap in the swing in the AM for an hour tops.

He loves my arms but that can't happen. Other than that his swing and I end up letting him take 30 min naps in my arms throughout the day.

I would just look for his sleepy signs (usually 1-2 hours after waking up) then move him to his crib. If he cries I would pick him up and soothe him then when he stops put him back down and repeat. I read this in a sleep book and it is a good way to let them learn to self soothe w/o doing CIO (since he is still young). I tried this with my DD when she wouldn't nap in the crib and I am not going to lie the first time I had to pick her up like 50 times. After that it wasn't bad at all. She only naps in the crib now unless we are out then she will sleep in the carseat.
