please explain?

on i-am-pregnant.com it says the following so how do they justify that most women have gained 14lbs if the baby and fluids aren't measuring 14lbs.

Your breasts have increased in weight by 6 ounces each and the uterus has grown to 11 ounces! You may be gaining weight in places other than your abdomen and this may be affecting your posture and sleeping habits.

One of the most amazing aspects of your baby's growth and development is that of the fetal brain. Your baby's brain is one of the first organs to appear. Your baby's oversized head shows the brain's importance in his development. Because the nerves that connect the muscles to the brain have grown into place, your baby's movements are consciously directed. Your baby's ears stand out from the sides of the head and the buds for your baby's permanent teeth appear. Your baby's arms and legs have reached their relative proportions and his feet are approximately one inch long

Alot goes on that adds to that weight, your blood volume is increasing, so is your fluid retention as well as fat stores, all things that are unmeasurable and different for every woman.

That's my explanation

All I know is I gain no matter what I do, exercise, eat well, so all it's a big secret my body won't tell me!

The same thing that would explain why I packed on pounds in my 1st and 2nd trimester while I was eating more healthy, but have only gained 3 pounds in my 3rd and I now have "dessert" after all three meals.....

I swear- I gained weight like CRAZY in the first and second.

My SIL took spin classes until the week before having my nephew and she still gained ALOT of weight (and she wasn't stuffing her face either).

I truly believe your body will do what it's going to do. Try not to let it get to you.....

I know that it's normal to feel weird that you are gaining so much weight but there is nothing you can do about it. Your body is changing and your baby is growing. Bottom line.

My doctor has said that everyone grows/gains differently and every body carries a baby differently. I think that if you embrace this time and enjoy what is happening to your body you will be much happier.

Constantly looking at the scale and worrying what you weigh will do no one any good. If your doctor is concerned with your weight then I would change things - until that day - enjoy being pregnant.

So far I have gained 40lbs with this pregnancy and honestly, I don't care if I gain 60 lbs. I know all the weight will come off and am not worried about it in the least bit and neither is my doctor.

Its a matter of blood volume, water etc, and baby and plain old eating more....I would assuem you are eating more as you should be and not as active as you were pre pg, meaning the food your eating is not being burned off like it once was....

its all normal though and I agree , that worrying about it now is a bad sign.....your gonna gain weight, I never did b/c of my severe hyperemesis but now in the end when I finally am, I could care less if I gain 20 lbs this week alone, its all for the baby and I will lose it when the babys out...

thanks girls i know the weight gain in inevitable - i just wanted to understand where the 14lb number came from when the baby and everything else they mention doesn't add up... i've gained more than that.

I found this for total pregnancy weight gain:

Approximate breakdown of a weight gain of 29 pounds
Blood 3 pounds
Breasts 2 pounds
Womb 2 pounds
Baby 7.5 pounds
Placenta 1.5 pounds
Amniotic fluid 2 pounds
Fat, protein & other nutrients 7 pounds
Retained water 4 pounds

I attribute my weight gain to mostly BOOBS (6oz my left foot!) Baby (1.5 pounds) and the rest all to water retention!!!!!! How else could you explain how a 5'8" women who eats 1800 calories per day can gain almost 20 pounds at 24 weeks? Especially when Im eating a lot less than I was before?
