Please be careful with rocking bassinets...
I had the scare of my life last night. I was with my DH, mom and dad watching tv and DS who is only 9 days old was sleeping in his Eddie Bauer rocking bassinet right by us (literally a hand reach away from me). I heard a muffling cry and when I looked at him his face was against the side and the bassinet was tilted to that side because of his weight.
My newborn is very strong, he weighs 9 pounds 13 ounces 22 inches long and he moves around like he is 4-8 weeks old already. He can lift and move his head around already, hold his own pacifier (ped saw this with his own eyes at DS's first appt) and he has incredible leg strength. He can push his body away using his legs.
I didn't swaddle him at that particular time last night and I think that too may have been a problem because he was free to kick and move around. I cried hysterically because it was frightening to see. I took him out and now put him in the huge Graco play pen. He has more room, it doesn't tilt and he is also swaddled.
I just think that rocking bassinets are not safe now. My mom said my baby doesn't act like a newborn and he is too big for it. Tomorrow I will be looking at the E.B bassinet to see if there is an option to make it not rock but I doubt it.
He's really liking the play pen bassinet piece. He's got a lot more room and it's more open.
Please beware of rocking bassinets. I don't think they are safe at all :(.

Does your bassinet have a rocking lock on it, so it doesn't have to rock if you don't want it to, I know mine did.
I'm glad your DS was ok!!

Wow that is scary. Glad your baby is OK
Does it have a lock on it? I'm using a cradle but it has a lock which I plan on keeping in place.

Re: Please be careful with rocking bassinets...
I'm borrowing this same bassinet from my cousin. I checked it out the other day and the rocking portion can be locked on hers.
Thank God everything is ok.
