Please when you get new phones do not use Best Buy's insurance. Despite me warning DH when he bought the phones through them rather than through verizon, he went with their insurance anyway. With 6 months left on our contract his phone went. They told him he had to bring it in. But Friday he was told he had to wait until today before anyone would be in. They said they doubted a factory reset would work, but told my husband he could look it up and try it at home. But he had two choices. 1) pay them $250 dollars and they will expedite a new phone to him,3-5 days before he gets it, then he must return the old. Then in 2-3 weeks or more they will refund the money when they receive the old phone and process it. Or 2) they send us a box, we ship them the phone regular mail then they process it and will send a new one regular mail. Turn around time before DH gets his phone 2-3 weeks.

I heard some scary things and so I found this and several others on consumer affairs...some mentioned that they lost the phone sent in. What a lose lose situation. All the while you pay for service. So you give them $250 to hold for what they told DH at least 2-3 weeks or be without a phone for 2-3 weeks .

When we first got our phones through Verizon, we decided to also do their insurance. It worked well. If we had issues with our phones, they ordered a new phone and had it shipped to the store where we would exchange it. The turnaround was only a few days. Now, when there is an issue, there are two options: Have a $250 hold placed on your bank account for several weeks while they ship you a new phone and then wait for your old phone to be sent back. So 1-2 weeks of a $250 hold on your bank, OR they ship you an empty box that you need to ship back with your damaged phone and after a "4-5 day" processing period, they will ship you a new one. The total turnaround for this is 2 weeks. 2 weeks with no phone. Some people may think "big deal," but when you have kids in school & no home phone or other way to communicate with people, 2 weeks with no phone IS A BIG DEAL. Ridiculous and I will be complaining everywhere I can. What a ridiculously stupid policy.
