Playstation 3
Thinking of getting this for DH for Christmas BUT DH mentioned earlier today that he thought they would be going down in price after the new year. Anyone agree with that? I mean its $400-$500 depending on the bundle you choose and if its just gonna go down in price, i'd rather wait another month or 2 to get it for him and just get him something else for Christmas. any thoughts? wait or buy it now?

honestly--i don't think it will go down again in price for a little while.
the $399 price is for the 40GB PS3 -- that is the reduced price version. That one has only 2 USB ports instead of 4, and you can not play older PS2 games on it at all.
the $499 price is for the 80GB PS3--now it can play SOME PS2 games but there is no guarantee that it will play all.
There *might* be another price drop later on--but I don't it will come within a month or two after the holidays....I could be wrong--I hope I am cause I would love the PS3 for DH and I, but something tells me that $399-499 price will stay for awhile. Keep in mind that the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray disc player---and that alone if you bought a blue ray player by itself would cost you a good $400-500!

i was just looking at playstation.com and the specs are almost identical to the 2 systems--but the 80GB has the 2 extra USB ports as well it has a Memory Stick/SD/CompactFlash slot that the 40GB doesn't have.
think of it this way--if he is a serious gamer and will be using this sytem a lot---go for the 80GB--if you don't think he's a big gamer or he doesn't have a lot of PS2 games--go for the 40GB.
you can always go to a store like best buy and ask one of the media ppl--usually they are big time gamers who work there and will be honest, not just tyr and sell you something. i used to work for best buy in that same dept....they are pretty honest in the gaming dept.

chances are no...Sony is still trying to figure out how to win some of the market share from MS but can't....
big differences from the different models..depending where you buy, you can get some freebies like games, remotes, etc...
remember to save recepict and box for 5 free blu ray movies in the mail...
any questions, feel free to ask as i own all the system since day 1

I am so glad to read all of this becuase I am in a quandry if I should buy DH the 40 or the 80 without coming right out and asking him....thank you so much for all of the info!!!

me too
I couldn't get my hands on the 60 GB for a decent price (it was only like 20 bucks cheaper than the 80 and didn't come with anything like this one did) because from what I read, that one is equipped to play all old PS games.
