Playdate Q: Going to someone's home
I met another mom at my local library recently who has kids close in age to DC. We talked about getting together and exchanged numbers. Well, we've texted back and forth. I always recco a park or two, she always brings up having us over to her house.
I don't feel comfortable taking my kids to someone's home I barely know. I feel like we need to hang out a few times before being one on one at their home. I also feel this way about inviting others to my home.
How do feel about having 1st playdates at a home?

It wouldn't bother me at all so long as I was staying at the play date. I would never drop off my child and leave them with someone I barely knew but I don't see anything wrong with having a play date at this person's house. I would totally go.

I agree with you. I'd like to get to know her better before going to her house.

Would you stay? If yes, then I don't see anything wrong with that. What is your concern?

I don't see anything wrong with it since I would be there with DS and monitoring whatever he plays with and making sure he doesn't get into anything etc.

Re: Playdate Q: Going to someone's home
I would be at the playdate. Personally, I feel being at someone's house I barely know is a little awkward. I just haven't done that before. Apparently, this is something very common and I will just have to get use to it.

Playdate Q: Going to someone's home
I would personally meet her at a park. I would not feel comfortable at all going to a strangers house. In this day and age you never know what people are really up to. Its sad to say that but thats the world we live in. Especially with your child.

Re: Playdate Q: Going to someone's home
Assuming that the person you are doing a playdate looks like a friendly mom and the kids would enjoy a playdate, I would be fine going to another person's house for a playdate. I personally prefer home playdates to playground playdates.

Playdate Q: Going to someone's home
As long as you've met several times I would be fine with it and have done it. After chatting with the same people for months at the library I feel like I know them well enough to invite them over or go to their home. If you're not comfortable though just try to be the one to make the plans. Text her to invite her a specific place with a date and time so that hopefully she'll go along with it. I've also just met with other moms before a library class so that the kids could play together for a while.

That's usually how it it is. I would just go to their house. Or have them at your house. Not a big deal, because you'll be there all the time. Usually 'first' anything is awkward or uncomfortable.
Or just don't go. Your choice really. No one can make you do something you are really uncomfortable with and you shouldn't if you have all these feelings abt it.

ITA. This specific mom I've literally met once. If I'd known her for months on and off at the library, park, etc. I would have no problem at her home.

This summer, I met a mom at my friend's community pool. We chatted for about an hour and my son really got along with her son. I asked her for her number. We texted a few times and I invited her over to our house. We now hang out frequently. Our sons play perfectly together.
We are actually waiting for them to come over this afternoon for a playdate.
There are other moms and kids we've known for years and we don't click. I don't necessarily think it matters how many times you have met one another but how well everyone gets along.
