plant question - what is this???
DH and I did a TONNN of much needed gardening today and discovered a very odd plant that I can not identify...
It happens to be growing out of the center of a hosta in our flowerbeds - it is not the flower from the hosta... At first I thought it might be a weed but it is actually quite large & woody.
Thinking it might be a small tree of some kind but it is such an odd place for it and why int he center of a hosta of all places?
We are fairly new to this house (only our 2nd spring here)...

lookign at the leaves, could it be
echinecea?
They are quite common around here.
Rose of Sharon have a different shape to the leaf.
