Phones

Does anyone have any experience with those types of phones that you just pay per minute or so? DS started riding his bike around the neighborhood with friends. I am having a minor heart attack and want a way to get in touch with him but I don't want him to have a phone just yet - just something that he can take with him for an emergency.

Re: Phones

Both my Dad and FIL had pay as you go phones, but it wound up cheaper/easier to add them to our plan.
They both had basic flip phones, no way did we trust FIL with a smart phone. FIL ran thru his minutes pretty quickly. My dad made $100 last a whole year.

Currently we only have my dad, and we pay $20/month for service with Verizon.

Re: Phones

DS, DW, and my mom all use TracFone. I just renewed DS for another year, and it was about $50 with tax. 1000 texts are $5, which is mainly what he uses. Minutes are really cheap, and I don't usually add more that often. There are tons of promo codes around as well.

Hubby and I both use Tracfone. We pay $99 for an entire year of service. I have to add data to mine through the year, but I never spend more than $150, all in for a year of service. They run on verizon towers and we have no problems at all. I use mine to run my business.

Re: Phones

We used to have Tracfones for years. Loved it. Very inexpensive, good for emergencies, didn’t have any trouble with bad service or dropped calls. The phones are very basic, nothing fancy. I wanted an iPhone so we finally got rid of our tracfones after many years but I will probably get them for my kids to have on them if I need to reach them when they’re a little older & going to school.
