Phlegm & Rattling in Chest
My DS is 3 months and he has a lot of phlegm and rattling in his chest. He is on Alimentum but that doesn't help with the problem.
Is this reflux? Would Zantac help?
I spoke to my DR and they tell me to use saline and steam but that doesn't work either.
This kid is in pain and just cries.

Re: Phlegm & Rattling in Chest
Both of my kids had/have reflux, but there was never a phlegm issue. I'd assume its more of a chest cold? Some newborns are also just very phlegmy, though my 3 months there should be improvement on that.

Phlegm & Rattling in Chest
My dd had a mild case of reflux she had some wheezing in her chest before meds. Phlegm was not an issue. you could sort of hear her breathing it was loud. Is that what you might hear? My dd had a mild case of reflux and had a dairy protein intolerance so she was on Zantac and Alimentum. Alimentum made a HUGE difference. HUGE.
How long have you tried the saline and steam?
Have you tried a nebulizer? Humidifier when he sleeps?
Is this new or on going for 3 months?

Phlegm & Rattling in Chest
DS had phlegm and congestion due to silent reflux (can't remember if I heard it in his chest though - I don't think so bc our ped said his lungs were clear). I had assumed it was a cold but it wasn't. My ped suggested the same as yours, hot steam showers to break up the mucus, saline drops and then I suctioned him out (nose frida works best) and to put the humidifier right next to his co-sleeper. I also elevated his bed basically 45 degrees. There's really nothing else you can do.
