Petfinder.org - Update...

DH & I found a doggie we'd like to meet/adopt through petfinder.org.
He's located upstate in a shelter.

What's the normal/average turnaround time until you would hear back from them? I contacted them yesterday expecting to hear something today, but nada - I want to send a second request - but I also don't want to be a complete pest. Should I e-mail them again tomorrow?

UPDATE: Well...I don't think this will work...I got a response from the place -

Sorry for the delay in answering your email. Benjamin is a very quirky dog. He doesn't like men, absolutely no cats, and because of his apparent need for a quieter/less activity home, we don't feel a home with kids would do well or a home with much coming and going of other people. I think that long term you would not be happy with him. He was adopted by a couple and he of course loved the wife. Then one night about 2 weeks into it, he growled at the husband and wouldn't let him up the stairs, so back he came. My real concern would be that he would bond with your grandmother and not be friendly with others who came near her. He doesn't like other dogs, so walking him on a leash can be a problem, though at least he is small and can't drag you across the street if he sees another dog coming.

I would call the shelter instead of sending another email, especially since Petfinder might not be updated as frequently as you'd think.

I heard back in like 2 days after filling out online applications ( I filled out a bunch) I kind of stalked Jersey's foster mom/shelter because I didn't want anyone to get her! It worked out well.Good luck!

Chat Icon Stalking...I could do that! I think tomorrow morning I'm going to put in a second request. This place doesn't even give you an app right off the bat...you have to request it first. I want my doggie!Chat Icon Chat Icon

I found out why. A New Leash On Life doesn't have any public locations. The dogs are in private foster homes.

So you'll have to wait until you get an email back. Sorry. Chat Icon

We got Abby through petfinder. We heard back the next day. By telephone though.

But there were others we contacted and never heard anything back from.

Re: Petfinder.org - Update...

As much as it stinks that dog sounds like it needs a lot of attention and some specialized training to help it to re-acclimatize to everyday life.

Keep looking & don't give up! We looked at/interviewed for 6 chihuahuas before we got Bruno. And he was without a doubt the best dog we looked atChat Icon

Re: Petfinder.org - Update...

I definitely agree with you both. I just e-mailed her back thanking her for her honesty. Benjamin would be a very difficult fit with us - especially if he grew so attached to my Grandma and wouldn't let us or anyone near her.

Here he is...
