Personal question re: credit cards [Poll]
DH and I paid off our credit cards almost four years ago and haven't used them since. I recently found out one of my rewards cards was bought by Chase, so now I will have two Chase Visas. Weird.
I called to find out my available credit and I think my limits are a little low. We don't *need* it right now, but I'd like to have it just in case, so I might keep both cards or see if they will combine the two and give me the lowest APR.
I was just curious how much available credit people have with all their credit cards. I realize it's a personal question so I did the poll, no need to feel pressured to answer or vote.
***Edit - I mean how much is your total limit, regardless of how much you owe***

Re: Personal question re: credit cards [Poll]
Do you mean available credit as in INCLUDING how much you currently owe on your cards, how much you have left over to still use? That's how I took the question, but then I thought maybe you meant how much were the limits on all of your cards...

Re: Personal question re: credit cards [Poll]
I'm sorry, I edited my post.
If your limit is $10k and you're using $5k of it, you would still vote $10k.
Hope that's clearer!

Re: Personal question re: credit cards [Poll]
We had a lot more credit on 2 of our cards, but since we weren't using it, they cut it dramatically last year. I think a lot of people got their credit cut during the recession.

Re: Personal question re: credit cards [Poll]
I wonder if they'll be resistant to raising it for us then. We haven't really done a 'review' of our cards since we bought our home. We've been concentrating more on paying cash (or going without) and saving money in our accounts.
I just think of all the things that we could need to put on a card in cases of emergency and I'm a little concerned that the limits wouldn't be enough.

LOL... where is the 300k+ option?
I have one card by itself with a 73k credit limit.
I have three other cards all with over 40k limits.
Plus a bunch of other cards.

In my experience, I have found if you have high limits on some cards, then other banks will be MORE willing to give you high limits, just to be competitive.
I think banks get more nervous if you are the type of customer that just has a few cards with 2-3k limits.

What do you have on your credit report then that determines your length of credit history?
You should always have at least 1-2 credit cards.
Without a credit card on file, it shortens your active credit history which lowers your credit scores.

Sounds like me! It's insane! I never had more than like $2K on a card and pay every balance in full. I have one card with a $54K limit

Re: Personal question re: credit cards [Poll]
I chose the wrong answer... I put 10-20k but I think it's more like 20-40k.
I don't pay attention to the limit, I just have a personal limit for the amount of debt that I will carry.
My Sears card has actually reduced my credit limit twice because I haven't used it in a while. I only keep it because I've had that card the longest.

I think that qualifies for the 60K + option!

Re: Personal question re: credit cards [Poll]
My major credit cards have a limit of anywhere from $8k-15k on each one.
I find the amount of credit available to me scary at times.....
