Permit for Tree Removal

We are in the Town of Oyster Bay and I was told we need a permit for tree removal. To me that seems very weird but I looked it up online and it's true it can cost anywhere from $50-$75 per tree. Did anyone ever do this and know how long it takes?

It is very true and if the town catches the workers they have to stop them. I know in my town (I am in NJ but also need a permit) the fine is up to $1000.

Re: Permit for Tree Removal

I also live in TOBay.. I got this done in December last year. You have to pay for the permit and then they tell you that you have to pay for each tree removed.. unless you tell them that you plan on replanting. They give you a certain amount of time to replant. If I remember correctly, I got the permit the same day.

Yes you need one, it can be up to $75 per tree. I went and filed the papers, they sent out the guy to look at the tree the next day and then I went and picked up the permit. The tree company we used said that we had to get the permit first b/c they have and will absolutely stop them from working if they catch them

Re: Permit for Tree Removal

Is this for trees on your own property?

We had 8 oak tree's that we cut down, and i don't remember getting a permit, they were all on our property

Re: Permit for Tree Removal

Yes they are both on our property. If you go to TOB website they have the info for it. I thought it was crazy to have to go thru this just to take down trees. But it is what it is I guess
