pedicures...am I being silly
When I was pg with #1, I heard a wives tale that there are pressure points on you ankles/heel that can bring on labor. I am such a chicken I didn't get pedicures and that was not a good thing. With this one, I am getting pedicures, just skipping the massage. But, DH's bday is this month and I wanted to do a spa day with him. Part of it would be a private couples pedicure. It is a nice, over the top pedicure with leg/foot massgae. I am being foolish in believing a massage will bring on labor??

Just tell them you are pregnant. A good spa should be trained in prenatal massaging.

well, its not a wives tale - it is true. But many people get the pedicures and skip the massage (or get the masssage towards the end lol). I would call the spa and ask them first. Lots of spa's might not even touch your ankles/legs/feet if they know you are preggo. I had a "full body" pre-natal massage and they wouldnt even go near the area. They actually barely applied any pressure anywhere.

I get pedicures every 2 weeks, massage and all. Also, I've gotten a prenatal massage where they massaged my legs/feet.
Honestly, I think it's a little silly. But, if God forbid something happened will you look back and say, "I shouldn't have gotten that pedicure". If so, then don't do it.

oh - I just saw you are only 9 weeks - I had two spas tell me that they wouldnt touch me until I was in the second tri! Again this was for an actual massage but I would def just call and ask bc after I was told that I asked around and a few people told me that is common practice at spas for all types of massages.

I have had about a million pedicures during my pregnancy. They don't massage hard or long enough in the right spot for it to do anything (if it could do anything at all). Now at 38.5 weeks i am WISHING it would send me into labor  Plus I've heard the old wives tale only applies in the 3rd tm.
If you're really nervous just ask them to do a light or no massage.

same here with my DD. IMO its silly. you wont go into labor from a pedi at 9w..or 12w...or 15w..
however if you were say, 34w, then i would probably be a bit cautious, although i would still get the pedi just tell them to go light on the massage. then if you were say, 40w, id say get two pedis!!

I got plenty of pedicures when I was PG with my DD and never heard that it could bring on labor. i looked forward to the massages, especially towards the end when my feet were always aching!
I also got a prenatal massage and they knew I was pregnant, clearly. I did do it in my 2nd trimester though. I heard that you can't do prenatal massage in the 1st trimester.
Do you have a drs appt coming up where you could ask about this? My massage place needed a note from my DR saying that I was OK for the prenatal massage.

Same here - but that was because I was trying to book a reflexology foot massage.
My spa requires a doctors note, that's all and my doctor was totally fine with it.
A regular pedicure is no biggie (I get those all the time, massage and all with no note) but for foot massages they are a little more careful.

I haven't gotten a pedicure the whole time and I was pregnant through the summer. I kept my nails trimmed and clean but I didn't do anything else. The salon near me has a small disclaimer where you pay, asking you to inform them if you are pregnant.. so i figured why bother.
