Pediatrician question...
I'm still looking for a pediatrician (procrastinating) and was wondering...what happens when you choose a practice with only one doctor when you give birth? Does the doctor still come see the baby at the hospital?
From referrals and checking who is covered I am going to check out
Dr. John Zaso in East Meadow
&
Dr. Ronald Marino in Mineola
If you know anything about these doctors or if you want to recommend your choice please do..
I need a Winthrop affiliated doctor and I rather it not be a very big practice.
For ex: My GYN referred me to Garden Ciity Pediatrics but there are 6 doctors there...I get that its not personal feeling.
Thanks ladies...again

Re: Pediatrician question...
I can't recommend a dr, but check with the ped office.
At mine they do not go to the hosptial, the pediatrician on call does. then I make an appointment within a few days of birth to take baby to office.
I am going this weekend to meet dr.

Re: Pediatrician question...
Dr. Marino was recommended by my pediatrician as my "stand in" ped at Winthrop, since my ped is not officially affiliated (though he did get permission to visit the nursery & do an exam).

Same with me. I cannot make a recommendation being I live out of state but I picked a pediatrician that 1. Accepts my health insurance (and came recommended by co-workers with kids and my OB); 2. Practice is close to where I live; and 3. Is affiliated with the hospital that I will be delivering in.
It's a practice (6 doctors) so whichever of the doctors is on call the day I deliver at the hospital will come check the baby. I can then make an appointment to take the baby to the office for a wellness visit. I will visit the practice on Monday Feb. 11.

Re: Pediatrician question...
My ped is amazing - and is affiliated w/ Wintrop. Dr. Arnie Chusid - on Hillside Avenue (not sure if it's Mineola or Williston Park) -- 742.4171.
ETA: My ped is really a solo practitioner - he does have a woman who helps out with some of his patients - if he is away - but all of his patients see him.
He was going away the weekend after I gave birth - so he came the morning I had Jack to see him - and then sent the other dr. the remaining days. Everyone who worked at Wintrop knew him - and all said that he was an amazing doctor.
My family has been going to him for YEARS and my cousin also works for him.

Re: Pediatrician question...
We love Dr. Zaso! He is great, and so is his staff, very friendly, and never a problem fitting me in when one of my step children are sick. He will be our pediatrician of course now with this baby on the way. I asked him about seeing the baby in the hospital when i deliver. He is not affiliated with NS, but he will arrange for someone to see the baby in the hospital, and then we can bring the baby to him after we come home. I know he goes to winthrop for sure. We switched to him last year, after going to a multi-dr pediatrican practice that always had a long wait, and we werent crazy about every dr, a few werent the most friendly, and the staff wasnt the best either. I find going to dr zaso was a huge difference just from our 1st appt with him, the kids really like going to him too. Good luck with your seacrh, hope this helps!
