pediatrician pros & cons/WWYD
Im almost 35 weeks pregnant. I posted a while back asking for pediatrician recs (im in port jeff station in suffolk). After getting recs here, checking my insurance, and talking to my ob for their recs/opinion i narrowed it down to 2. We met with the 1st and i didn't really like her, although the office was very nice. #2 - dr amy leonard - i liked her a lot, the office is about 10min away, staff was very nice, was happy with their policy on vaccs... but my cons are there are no separate entrances or waiting rooms for healthy vs sick kids... and she will be out on maternity leave for 2 months (shes due a month after me). There are 2 other drs in the practice, one i met for a minute and she "seemed" nice but i didnt have a real convo with her. So im torn. Are these make it or break it things in your book... should i keep looking? Or go with the practice and figure im not going to find EVERYTHING i want in one place?

Can you make another appointment at the place you like to meet one of the other doctors? I would not pick the place where you said you didn't like the doctor, that's the point of interviewing. I don't like the idea of no separate waiting room but being that you check in/out and share the entrance and exam rooms anyway that wouldn't make or break it for me. If you get a better feel for the other doctors and like them, I would go with them. Of course, I went with references and didn't bother interviewing at all and have been happy with my choice.

As far as seeing other Drs in the practice....you will never see your Dr all the time. For well visits maybe but sick visits you get whoever is available.
Waiting room. My Drs office just has a separate area but they are part of the same actual waiting room and no separate enterance. But my Drs office takes you right away. And newborns they do not make wait at all.

Re: pediatrician pros & cons/WWYD
definitely go back and interview the other doctors in the practice.
My ped has a separate sick/well waiting area but even still with infants- we go directly to the exam room... See if they have a similar policy

I agree.. My pedi is one of many in that group. I've met three. One I never want to see again. The others are alright for quick visits, sick, etc.
Id make and appt and see at least one other doctor.
As far as enterance goes, I am with the poster above. same enterance, different area. I can't see why you need a separate entrance to make you FEEL safer about it because sick or not they (all others) will and do use any entrance they can.
Then again at 4yrs old I still rarely let AJ touch ANYTHING at all. Well side or not. They have hand sanitzer out front and AJ knows how to rub it in, she also knows my rule about no touching. Ours has suspended trains above (two of them going in opposite directions) and she likes to walk under then until they disappear behind the doors, which means she travels the whole width of the waiting area. They have TVs on all sides and show constant movies (disney themed type but not always disney), so she'll sit and watch at one of the kid tables.
Sick side or Well Side, you just gotta be viligant.
