Pediatrician Consult

I am meeting with a potential pediatrician next week and was wondering if you girls had a list of questions that I should bring with me. I'm not really sure what sorts of things I should be asking Chat Icon

TIA

Re: Pediatrician Consult

Off the type of my head and as a brand new parent some things I have run into:

1.) Hours
2.) On-call policy/emergencies
3.) What do they treat in the office
4.) How quick to get an appointment
5.) Sick/well area in waiting room
6.) How many doctors in practice/can you choose your doctor if multiple docs
7.) Do they have access to child's records from home/wherever
8.) Avg wait time to see doctor when you arrive
9.) Will they let a newborn go into a seperate room vs. staying in waiting room area
10.) What is their philosophy overall towards treatment, shots, etc.
11.) Do they accept your insurance/what is policy for payment if insurance doesn't kick in right away (I ran into this and had to pay up front for all my visits in the first couple of weeks and I am waiting to be reimbursed from the doctor 's office).
12.) Avg amount of time for test results to come back
13.) Some things that may come up with newborns that they see often
14.) Can results be given over the phone
15.) Policy on appt. cancellations
16.) When to go to the emergency room and which one(s) are the best for babies/kids and are they affiliated

I also think you should observe what the facility looks like.

Do they have up to date equipment?

How do their support staff/nurses etc. treat everyone?

Do they enforce the sick/well area policy in the waiting room?

Also this is random but what is parking like at the facility? (Recently ran into this where the parking lot was completely full and it was pouring outside and appt was in 5 minutes. Luckily DH was with me so he dropped me off and was able to wait until he could find a parking spot).
