Pediatrician

Did you, or are you going to meet with, your Pediatrician before hand. My Mother keeps pushing me too but I really don't have a lot of time left. It's not like I don't know him, he was mine!!

Re: Pediatrician

I didn't. I ended up changing twice. I went on recommendations.

I think if he was your ped then you don't have to meet him. Did your Mom give you a reason why she thinks this?

Re: Pediatrician

She thinks I should sit down with him and discuss what type of formular and stuff they reccommend. Plus discuss what medications I am on and if I can breastfeed and still take it, yada yada.

Re: Pediatrician

I really do not plan to meet with our pediatrician, since I am going by recommendations from my bro/sil and a few other people who use this practice.

The only question I do have is a stupid one .... when you decide on a pediatrician, do you just call the office and say "hey, I want to use you as our pediatrician when our baby is born?" Or if not, how does this work exactly - do you just tell them at the hospital who you want to use when you go in to deliver? Given the fact I'm not going to interview the doctor, how do THEY know I want my baby to become a patient?

(i know this is SUCH a stupid question -sorry! And sorry to hijack JoAnne!)

They asked my on my admitting papers at the hospital the first time, but I ended up using their on-call ped since mine was in suffolk and I delivered in Nassau. I think they only see them at hospitals they are affliated withChat Icon

I met with my ped before hand, just to introduce ,myself etc. IMo - I would call the practice and tell them your due date, if your PED does not come to the hospital when you delver they like to see the baby within 24hrs, of getting home, so they can start to evaluate them and make their own charts

for example - I delivered @ Winthrop but live in Huntington. There was a residing ped @ the hospital who evaluated DS and then forwarded the records to my ped

whew...... did that help Chat Icon

Chat Icon Don't be silly, it's not a hijack and it's not silly.

When I filled out my pre-registration forms for the hospital, I had to put down who I wanted for my Pediatrician. Where I am delivering, there are only three groups that have hospitals privlidges.
If I were to choose someone who didn't, one of them would still see the baby in the hospital, but I would call who I was going to use and ask them beforehand.

Does that make sense?

Re: Pediatrician

I need to start looking for one. I don't know if I need to meet him/her, but I do want to be on the same page. Such as breastfeeding and not circumcising

Re: Pediatrician

If you know him and are happy with him then no, I dont think there is a need to go see him.

I didnt check out my DD's Ped before she was born just signed her up for our local group ped's but now wish I had checked out a few before hand as I dont really like the ped we have...thinking of changing.Chat Icon

Re: Pediatrician

My hospital told us that when you are admitted they ask you who your pediatrician is, then they call and notify them once the baby is born.
The pedriatrician knows which babies to visit and comes to the hospital.

I am going to meet with the group beforehand. My SIL uses them but I want to meet the dr beforehand and go over any questions that I have - just to be on the safe side that I like him.

Re: Pediatrician

OK, I just called the office and explained the situation. She said it was not necessary to meet with him beforehand and that I will have plenty of time to ask him questions when he comes to see the baby in the hospital. That's good enough for me. Once less thing I have to do before the big day!

Re: Pediatrician

Just be sure to ask your q's at the hospital and dont be shy....my ped rocked up to my bed, didnt even introduce herself and started listing of things...she really wasnt interested in listening to any q's I had...but I know for the future I will be better prepared and will have my list of q's ready to fire!!

Re: Pediatrician

i met with a few just last week.....its good to see their office if you are interested - we are between two still - one is a larger office that has more drs and hrs (so dh could always come too) and one is a smaller one we loved but with less evening hrs...since my dh works on sat that is out for us and I know when she is small and getting her shots I would prefer him to be there we might go with the larger practice.....but the other one was wonderful too...and both came recommended...just remember you can always switch!
